Now THERE'S an idea!! :drink:

Actually, we damn near lost the boat last weekend. Pulled into the Chesapeake Inn, and one engine wouldn't idle right. Opened the hatch to find out the the Schrader valve on the injection fuel rail was spewing gas e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e. The valve core had come loose, and the plastic cap wasn't man enough to hold back 50 psi. Got it cleaned up, and replaced the valve with a small gauge to get home. Phew. If the fumes had detonated......:hitfan:

See the "Gas leak scare.." thread in General Discussions.

Russ - Let me know if you have any problems finding the LED's you want. Are you going to the Annapolis show? We'll be there tomorrow.

Just re-browsed this thread. What the f@ck was I thinking when I started this project???? :readinghelp:

It was rewarding, but exhausting. Still, for a mere, say, $100,000 I could be persuaded do the same thing to anyone else's 382...

so now! Your boat is ready for sale!!!!

If anyone's interested, this boat will go on the market in September 2012. If you want it earlier, we can talk...

The sale will include spare drives and other parts.

This is a beautiful boat!

Good Luck with the sale!

Whats next????

This is an incredibly nice boat and Chuck has spared no expense in keeping it that way. Someone is going to buy a wonderful example of Formula's finest.

I like all that Volvo power. Did you ever break a drive?

What kind of speeds do you see with this setup?

I just read through this whole thread tonight. Thanks for keeping a record of what you have done and sharing it.

The way you approached the project shows a lot of planing with enough built in flexibility to make changes along the way.

I have found some great ideas to use putting my resin bucket back together. I especially liked that point in time when you realized you were taking your ratchet out of the box and the switch was on clockwise instead of counter clockwise...putting things on instead of taking them off...I'm almost there.

The 540/600's are great engines; I couldn't be happier with my choice, especially since the alternative was 575 Sci's.

I never broke a drive, but the pinion gear in the lowers starts to show some wear and heat after about 300 hours. I had such a great back-door deal through Volvo Penta that I simply replaced both drives in 2006 when one pinion pitted. That drive (which needs a lower gear set) and another operational drive are included with the boat as spares.

Brand new and unloaded, we saw 78 mph. After we loaded all The Admiral's stuff into the boat, the usual top end was around 75. After we painted the bottom in 2005, it's been more like 73. Not the fastest thing out there, but it will run forever at 3900 rpm/52 mph.

I HATE the though of selling it, but we want to move on to a deisel 400SS. If I could afford to keep the 382, I would. We won't give it away, but in the current market, it's hard to know what it will go for. I'd like to start off with an asking price in the $100k range. Any thoughts?
