One friend has a 242LS 454/330 and gets 53/54 another had one with a 502Mag/415 best was 62. He swapped it out for a warmed over HP500/525hp and gets 69.6 GPS. I told him to go to 540cu. The speedo is a little more optimistic:evilb::evilb:

I have a 1991 242SS, which is about 600 pounds heavier than the 1988 models. I get 48 mph tops (gps) with the standard 7.4L Merc. Speedo says low 50's.

I think the LS is a bit faster. The fastes combination is a 1988 LS with 454 MAG. It reportedly will hit 60 mph (probably hi 50's on the gps)

Why was the '91 heavier, where did the extra weight come from? I've never heard that before.

I can't think of anything different other than the back to back passenger seat and I think the sun pad is smaller. I'm interested too !!??? both are great solid boats. :ernaehrung004:

Tpenfield made it sound as though generically, the '91 models, both SS and LS were heavier than the '88s. If in fact he meant the SS was heavier than the LS, that may be but I don't think there was an appreciable weight difference. Certainly not 600 pounds.

As far as I know, the construction techniques and materials did not change in the 242 from 88 to 91, so I don't think there is any weight difference.

Hi regarding weight and messures on Formula, check out
the tread from "Handfulz28" What are the real lengt of our boats. 242LS: 2650, 242SS: 2750

tpenfield 12-02-2007 05:36 PM

In the Formula brochures (see their web site), it lists the dry weight of the 242 at 4150 lbs for the 1987, 88, 89, 90 models. The 1991 and 1992 models are listed at a dry weight of 4750 lbs (+600 lbs).

No specific reason stated, probably added some material to the layup.
