Question for you .....

What is the best way to get to the area you are refering to? Is it best to cross into Canada and goto London Ont. area or a little higher and go to top of Lake Saint Clair area or drive around the bottom of Erie and up from there?

Jeff

Skip the under lake Erie route, it'll add a good 6-8 hours to the trip. Myself I'd hit 401 depending on where your at it maybe shorter to cross over in Buffalo as opposed to the TI Bridge. then take 402 in London to Sania crossing back into the US at Port Huron. Then it would be 69 to 475 in flint then north up 75. From A-Bay to my place it's 450 miles I'm about 45 minutes west from Port huron and 5 min. north of 69. takes about 8 hours with customs. From my place to the UP (Mackinaw Bridge) about 3 1/2 - 4 hours. Depending on where in the UP you end up it'll vary Sue st marie hour north from the bridge to the western end about 4-5 hours. If you take the far northern route and come back down into the UP, I think you maybe at mother natures mercy.

Another thought is to start with Old Forge and see how our non-sled owners weather and then go from there as whether or not we are going to make a road trip for approx. 8hrs.

Just a thought ....

It makes no difference to me ...... I can take up to three sleds and four guys very comfortably in the Crewmax.

That's what I figured it would take ...... when I picked up my boat we crossed at the Port Huron Crossing coming from the Buffalo Crossing ..... it took approx. 4-5 hours if I remember correctly from Rochester one way.
So if I am understanding you .... this is still a 8hr. trip before we unload to ride.

When I do the UP trips I usually plan the first and last days for the road i.e. drive up Monday get a room, unload sleds etc. hit the trails tue-thur, load up Friday and head back home. lower half I'll drive up and ride same day.

There you go, not a nickle in it so you can drive it like you stole it.

Has to be someplace in the Old Forge area that does rentals, snowmoliling is big biz down there.

I thinking of a great ride ..... start somewhere in Old Forge ... two ways to go .... one big loop ..... straight up the tracks to Charlies Inn (Saranac Lake area) continue north ... there are a number of quick routes you can take end up in Pete's place stay over in that area .... then start to head back down cross over to the hill .... south to Booneville back up to Old Forge or vice versa.
Something along that line ...... There are a number of very cool places to see along the way ie Cranberry Lake .... Norrigewock Inn ..... Dumasis(? i think that is how you spell it) .... Pine Tree in Brantingham .....

Dumas' , cool... I've spent some quality time staying at a camp ('tini time) right on the trail in Childwold (sp) very familiar with Cranberry. We used to also ride for a few years in St Regis Falls, old stagecoach stop, bar on the first level, 2nd restaraunt and third was rooms. Used to rent the whole place the weekend of the daytona 500
