No boating for awhile!!!

Damn, this sucks, we had a flood this spring and very cold weather..now the Midwest is getting nailed with flooding again, this time REALLY bad. Was told today it could be 2 months before we can get back on the water and not have to worry about anything. Becasue of all of the flooding, the closest place I can go boating is Lake Michigan, 3 hours away!!!!:mad::mad:

sotapop20 06-11-2008 06:11 PM

What about Lake Geneva or Lake Winnebago for you Bill? I know Lake Geneva has a speed limit and it's expensive, but you can run the boat. The conditions in the midwest just suck right now with all the rain the region been receiving.

I doubt the Chain 'O' Lakes will be open for wake this weekend, so I'll be heading to southern Illinois with the new boat....If my schedule permits.

lake Genevas Speed limit is 35 on the weekend, so that is out. I can be to Winnebago in about 3.5 hours, IF i can get there from here now. There are ALOT of HWY's closed here in Iowa heading North and up through madison. Weather permitting, I think we are going to head over to North Point next Saturday if there isnot alot of debris on the lake from the flodding up in SE, WI. It just sucks, ecasue I really hate to spend 200-400 dollars in diesel fuel to go boating for 1 day, plus the fuel in the boat. I am also nervous about leaving right away for fear of my house flooding with the additional rain expected....

Yup, lots of rain too...all the work to prevent things I can do is done, so we are just waiting on the word to evacuate if needed, but my home SHOULD be OK. My business flooded last week, we got the water out and have done all we can to hopefully keep it from happening again Friday and this weekend. My boiat, camper and truck are in my building at my business, but should be safe, water was only about an inch deep in there last week.

I hate to say this becasue I think I am a strong person, but damn it is so hard to not just break down while watching what is going on all over Iowa, IL, and WI.

FRMULTR 06-14-2008 07:16 AM

Hey, Bill, how is it going for you out there in Iowa? Hope everything and everyone is doing well.

Shameless 06-14-2008 07:32 AM

Well,,,

Thanks for asking guys...
It has been a LONG 48 hours... Chit broke loose Thursday evening with a tornado 2 miles from my house, then the heavy rains let go. We got 6 inches in 4 hours and well, that is just too much water especially after all of the rain we have recieved. We got the orders to evacuate about midnight Thursday, but my stubborn azz refused and a damn good thing I did! I am the only neighbor to save mybasement from flood water! F U C K that small river, you are not beating my family and house!!!! 3 neighbors lost their foundations, all others lost everthing in their basements. about 1 dozen houses on my block and the next block over had water up on there main floor as well. (our first floors are elevated here). I had not been to bed since Wed, finally passed out Friday night about 9...phew, I am tired.... I had 3 big pumps going in my basement from about 10 or 11 Thrusday night and FINALLY was able to shut them off Friday around 4ish in the afternoon. Time is a bit of a blurr... Got my garage emptied from all of the mud and disinfected, so now the drying continues. I BEAT THAT F U C KING small river!!!!! (for now)....

The Mississippi is now supposed to crest at 21.9 feet, only a few inches shy of the record fllod of 93. so we are definately not out of the woods yet.... I have not broken down yet, just too tired I think, but I know it is coming becasue not only the area where I live but so much of Iowa, IL, and WI are simply devistated. Man, am I lucky to still have my house now...

a couple of quick pictures.

One is my garage inside of it, the submerged care is 5 houses away from me and at one point was completely under, the other pic is a neighbors house that lost its foundation. 3 neighbors lost their foundations...

FRMULTR 06-16-2008 06:37 AM

Hang in there, buddy. This too shall pass. If I can help in any way shoot me a PM. The flooding sucks around here as well, but no where near as bad as you have it. Glad to hear you saved your house.

C_Spray 06-16-2008 07:23 AM

Wow! All my "problems" certainly don't count anymore. Hang tough, Bill. Good job.

Did you get the TG Ken was telling me about???

4mulafastech 06-16-2008 08:33 PM

Bill, sorry to read of all your problems with your house and business! I just got back from a Florida vacation. It seemed every night on the news they were talking rain in Iowa. Great to hear you saved your house! At least it seems dry weather should be here in the midwest for a while. All that water is coming down river and my 292 is on a lift at the marina.:( My brother checked on it an all is well, but the marina will be going under in a day or so. She will have to ride it out! It is going to be pretty bad, but several feet from record '93 levels. Our thoughts are with your family and all those in the Iowa area having to deal with this mess!!

Yes, I forgot to tell you, we switched to to MI becasue of the flooding up in Racine... Actually, Racine is postponed, not cancelled, we always like to make trips up there and North point

FRMULTR 06-17-2008 10:30 AM

Sorry,I didn't realize that Racine was having issues with flooding as well.

I actually just started looking at them as well. We like to overnight, so a decent size cuddy is a must for the better half.
