Well I got good, bad, and worst news. I'll start with the good.
Good News- Sea Water pump is fixed on the port motor. The impeller was completely destroyed, just pieces were left, luckily I found all the pieces. Overheating problem solved.
Bad News- The brass housing was scraped and gauged out, so had to replace that as well. Add another $200+ to the bill.
Worst News- The alternator on the starboard engine went coming back from the sea trial. Pulled up to the dock, tuned both keys to shut off the motors, starboard motor kept running. Traced it back to the alternator. Add another $200+ to the bill.
All in all has not been a good week.

Look at the bright side ... the new style plastic housing pumps flow more water than the old brass style and it's easier to replace the impellors. The new alternators have updated electronics in a smaller package without the big hump on the back. It is easier to work around. And ... a tow in would have cost you more than that.
On the down side ... I would do the same updates to the other engine. The impellors definately have a life span. The same of the alternators. I had the original alternators from my '89 311 engines. Last year, I had problems with the sandwiching bolts backing out and eating pulleys. I replaced two, but then one alternator desintegrated. When the bearings get worn out, the vibration walks the bolts out.
