Anybody ever try to extend the V-berth in their Formula? My feet hang over the end of the bunk on my 271 and I thought how nice it would be to build an 18" removable extension that I could drop in just for overnight or weekend trips. I had a few ideas but they were all clumsy, heavy, or both.

Me too. If you come up with something that works, many of us would be interested.

Kind of goofy that the v-berths in my 223, 242, and 311 were all the same length. I'd definitely give up 18" of couch space in my 311 for a longer v-berth. I usually sleep on the couch, it's longer.

you can ad a drop in to the couch area ....I have seen that done and I think it was even an option on some of the fastech's .....m

Yeah Mike, that seems the best option. Just use the berth for storage with a mesh across it.

I built a 24in one in my 312 that worked great. I could move it up into the V-berth area when not used in about 30 seconds. Basically a padded/cloth covered board that had a lip and removable legs. We slept with out feet on it for 2 years until I sold the boat. I actually pushed all our clothes bags up into the point above our heads and we would slide down where the bed was wider.......pics on another computer so I'll have to post them tonight.

The legs and bases are metal pipe and screw in fittings. I padded the top and the bottom of the feet since they were going to be sitting on the couches. I made the legs a little long since our weight would sink them into the couches a little.

I added a pic of the AC cabinet I made too.......(we were using a home window unit in the doorway when the bed was first built).

Nice. Simple, removable, and you don't give up storage space. Was is stable when crawling in and out and putting weight on it?

all of the above.....I could sit on it if it wasn't too close to the ceiling. The back side had a lip that simply hooked on the edge where the factory cushions stopped. When I wasn't using it I could slide it up under the factory cushions and it only stuck out about 6 inches (that did make it hard to lay on if the extension was under the cushion but why would you need to do that anyway???)
