Group 31 battery tray on a 2002 353?
353 with 500 EFIs, Formula customer service says it should be running a 24M7 starting battery and an 1131XMF on the other side. Prior owner had two 27 series deep cycle batteries in it. Question is, where to get a group 31 battery tray? The battery length is 12 3/4 inches on the 31 as opposed to 12 inches on a group 27. Any help or guidance would be appreciated, thanks

In checking around,a Group 31 is hard to find. Formula has them of course, available thru most Formula dealers. It is Formula part # 4216.If you don't have a dealer,I will be glad to drop ship you one. Robert

Here's a thought for you. Do a pair of group 27 dual purpose batteries, did this on the last Fountain and I'm thinking this one is going to the same program if they don't come up like they should. Worked out well for me the last time, but then you know I'm not into the overdone electronic blingerizing.
Looks to be a lot of box options thru the aftermarket marine biggies for the 31 Optimas but slim pickings for reg 31's.
I'm beginning to think you Formula guys think you have Hybrids. 31's won't make it run any better! And you'll never drowned out Twins and Axa in a raft up anyways.

I have the Gil bracket(s) in my 382. I extended the port side one to fit two house batteries, though. (See before/after photos.) They are a nice cast aluminum piece, but I strongly recommend putting heli-coils in the bases where the the hold-down studs crew in. If you don't, the aluminum and stainless will react with each other over time (galvanic corrosion) and you will have a VERY hard time removing the stud to change batteries.
