I went to the SS because I wanted at least a little performance. My SS rides best around 30 or so MPH. I am so used to either idling or running 30 or so now, I don't have any desire to push the boat up to 57 or 58, which is where mine tops out. At first I pushed it up there, but learned quickly it is not the same motivation as when you push a go fast up.

If I looked at a 400 now, I would look closely at diesels. Or I might look more closely at a PC than I did when I switched.

We had cruisers for 10-11 years so I know what I would be going to. Just ready to trade performance for comfort.....and I always need a project....since the 382 is running perfect it's time to look for something else. Between the built motors (630hp), new dash, stereo, and new trailer I have ALOT of extra money in the 382 but would be happy to take low book value for it....even that is unlikely :(

Agreed. I rode on both 525/Bravo3 boat and Volvo 370/DPH boat. Diesels easy. These new ones don't even smell!

My only comment is that you need to be aware that the diesels have so much more torque, that several owners I have spoken with have had some difficulty with drives getting blown, and not as a result of doing anything crazy, just so much more torque.

I switched from a Sunsation F4 to a 350SS last year. I wouldn't buy an SS if you really want to go fast. They can get you from point A to point B in a reasonable amount of time, but they are not at all like go fast boats.

On the other hand, they are way better as an all around family boat than any go fast boat. Several of my family members really questioned the switch before we did it. But now nobody questions it. I don't think I will ever go back.

I did the same thing... Went from a high performance cat to a 370SS. Love the 370SS!!! I made the switch 2 years ago.

I can guarantee you though, the 400SS is way more than 1000 pounds heavier on the trailer. I have the 370SS I trailer everywhere and my brother has a 400SS he trailers everywhere. I am 22k on the trailer and he is above 24k.

Are you referring to the Cummins/Bravo III boats? I have heard horror stories about those, but the new Volvo/DPH package has a monster drive; about the size of a #6, rated for 850+ ft-lbs, and complete with hydraulic steering:

Yes Chuck, quite a few problems with the B III's bolwing out.
