Default 242ls Rubstrip replacement

I want to replace my black rubstrip with white, has anyone acomplished this, and possibly have a couple of pointers as to where to locate it or do I need to go thru Formula to make sure it will match up.

I know of others who have replaced the entire rub rail with a white plastic-like material, but that is not what you are asking about, right?

You have a S/S or alum rub rail with a 1/2" tall black plastic instert covering the screws and bolt heads, right? That's what I have and would also like to replace the insert with white. Had a camper shell with the same insert once.

Please keep us posted on your progress.

Call your Formula dealer. I'm not sure, but we (Formula) might still stock the same profile rubrail in white (made of the same PVC) that you have in black. If not, you can go with the white PVC we use now (will fit the same hull-to-deck joint footprint), but we also install a stainless strip in there.

Have your dealer's parts guy call our TAG guys.

When you replace, just put some 5200 in your old holes and drill new ones to match the holes in your new gunwale. The fun part is heating it up at the bow and aft corners to bend around those tight radii!

Go to Boat US or West Marine and look up TACO rub rails. I just got all new Rub rails and they matched mine to a T. They have all kinds of colors

Heat up to make radius, Boy oh boy does that sound fun!!! Audiofn did you have to go thru that also? has any one got a 242 they have done this too? whould like to see what it will look like when it is done. I think it will make the boat look really close to a late model! whats the opinion or am I wasting my time?

I replaced my rails with alluminum. The heating up is not a big deal. All you need is a heat gun and take your time. It is really easy but VERY time consuming to put all those screws in. I took it one step farther and through bolted the rail on for more strength.

I replaced the rubrail on my 1986 242LS last year. Used the stuff from TACO. Bought it online from Boat US. I think it cost about $200 and took about 4 hours to complete. Wasn't hard at all. The heat from the sun is enough to bend around the corners. Filled the old holes with silicone and drilled new holes. The stuff from TACO looks very similar to original but is not quite as durable.

I put new white rubrail on my 311 last year. I am very pleased with it. I got the rail from Formula. It is more expensive but well worth it. The stuff from TACO is junk in comparison. Benting the rail around the bow is the hardest part. That stuff is so rigid I didn't think it would ever bend like that. I will post some pics of my boat soon. Good luck, and remember, you get what you pay for.

Hey, Euby, I wanted to cheer for the Hoosiers in that game, but the last time I cheered for them (back in '87), it turned all the Hoosier fans into a**#oles! Well, at least they won't have to worry about Jeffries not showing up for the big games next year, huh?

Actually, I predicted this. I knew that as soon as IU got rid of Bobby Knight, good things were going to happen to them. Next to Gene Keady, he was my favorite coach.
