Looking for a clean 242/223

Hope this is OK to post in here. I've been looking high and low for a truly clean and cared for 242/223 and am having no luck with the advertised ones. So, if anyone has one or knows a friend, whatever, I'd love to hear from them. I've already travelled thousands of miles to look at crap, so I'm more than willing to travel for the right boat.

Ideally would be a 1990, Imron #1 with painted hullside, and bolsters. How's that for a wish list!?!?!
Not expecting all of them, but gotta put it out there.

Thanks in advance for any leads!
Bryan

Thanks, definitely came across that one. Looks pretty clean and same color scheme as our old 29PC, but a little too much white for the wife's taste.

I'm sure I've seen every publicly advertised one for the past year or two, but haven't found what I'm looking for yet. What I'm looking for now are the "thinking of selling" or "friend of a friend" that aren't advertised. :-)

cuposterchild 09-03-2009 09:49 AM

I know of a 1991 with same colors as the one above but std imron I believe. Hands down probably one of the cleanest 242's out there--no internet b.s. this boat is clean. No bolsters but has 502. All freshwater and low hours. Not on the market but he's looking to move into something else next season.

turboz67 09-03-2009 10:11 AM

humbler i have a 91 223ls it has a 502 with about 35hrs , all new gauges no bottom paint. i can send you pictures.

Thanks, seen that one too. If it was the "perfect" boat I'd consider it more seriously, but it's pretty much as far away as they get. :)

MillershighLife 09-03-2009 06:58 PM

Thought about (and definitely noticed) your 271. :) A bit out of budget range and we really like the more "old school" look of the 87-91 vintage. Besides, the 242 is pushing it as is. Interested on your thoughs of the pros/cons of 242 vs. 271.

This was just supposed to be a "tube" boat for the kids, and something easy for the old folks to jump in and go for a cruise or to grab lunch. :drink: I started looking for a 206, decided the 223 was a bit better for what we wanted, and extended to the 242 because there just seem to be more of them out there.

humbler 09-04-2009 08:11 AM

Responded to all PMs. Thanks everyone!! I knew there were more nice boats out there then what I've been finding.

they both are great and actually I think have the same handling charachteristics. run around 40 and they eat pretty much anything up, the 242 has more cabinet space downstairs and I think has a touch more headroom, however on 1 side of the cabin the 271 has a longer couch that 2 adults can sit in, neither 1 are a speed demon, my 242 ran 59.9 never could get the gps to click 60 lol, guess when I was trying hard I needed less fuel and my 271 runs 58 so far. there is more engine room in the 271 however the 242 had these handy black drop in storage containers that I dearly miss. both are great boats and very similar. my friend has a mint 242 with bolsters I bugged him forever but he didnt want to part now I think he's thinking about it, been looking at houses, if hew sells it I will cry its probally the nicest 242 in the country, I'll keep ya posted but I might just buy it myself thats how nice it is lol

242LS with Full Restoration

Hi Humbler,

I have a 1988 242LS that is just coming off a full restoration with pictures and documentation. New motor, new paint, all stringers and boxes below deck replaced by a professional fiberglass company. Gas tank was pulled, motor pulled, rerigged. Fully checked. The boat is beautiful. Never been bottom painted. 454 Magnum 365hp all rebuilt by a professional with pictures. Sitting on immaculate Shoreline bunk trailer. Let me know if you are still interested in a vintage restored Formula. Email me at [email protected] for pictures.

Regards,
Peter

cuposterchild 09-21-2009 12:45 PM

It is really a great, 100% freshwater boat. He has decided it is time to move up into something bigger.

humbler 09-23-2009 06:33 PM

Definitely a clean looking boat, but didn't do much to inspire the wife (i know, i know, but her happiness is directly related to mine :-)).

Still looking for the right thing (at the the right price), so please keep posting. Even if they're not right for us, hopefully it helps the seller find the right buyer.

First person to come look at it bought it. Really was one of the cleanest Formula's of that era.

BadCompany 09-25-2009 05:46 PM

I have a 33ft fountain that needs to go! You will not find another one that is as clean unless it's new also but mine is a fraction of the $$

Hubler,

Take a look at these links and you can see my setup.

http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/f...42ls-help.html

http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/f...-hookup-3.html

Really quick it is an 88 242 LS with all new power (454 rebuilt bottom up 400+ hp. I have the dyno and list of parts), bravo one with new gimble ring and internals, all aluminim trailer with new brakes. You can see the engine compartment is all rewired and painted with awlgrip including the engine to match the boat.

I have more pictures if needed. The boat is going to be wrapped for storage soon, but I can hold off if interested.

Thanks,

Jed

89 223 SS for sale

Hello Bryan,

I just came across your posts of looking for a clean Formula for sale. Maybe you'd be interested in ours.

Thinking about selling my '89 242ls

It may not be perfect, but it is in very nice condition. I re-powered it last year with a 454 Mag MPI (385hp) and replaced the transom assembly because of too much play in the steering. It runs out at 58mph on GPS with a 4 blade Revolution prop. The color scheme is red, black and grey. The boat has just under 1500 hours, the motor has about 350 to 400. If you want to see pictures, send me a PM or email.
