Trailer for 292
I have a silly question...Since the 292 has a stepped hull, what is needed for a trailer configuration to ensure the boat sits properly on the bunks (proper bunk speration, etc)?
|
Formula can email you a blueprint of the bottom. You need a special printer to print it out so I forwarded the email to Staples.Think it was five bucks to make a copy.Needed it when I set my lift up.
|
Once the blueprint is received what happens to the bunks? Do they need to be cut or adjusted? I am a total newb. Forgive me.
|
Do you already have the trailer or can loadright set it up for you?Basically you should have three sets of bunks the back two should be on the steps with the front of the bunk touching the 90 deg angle of the step. The front should be against the hull but not touching the chine.
If this was not set up at loadright its going to be a lot of work. |
^^Is it gonna cost me more to have load rite set it up or is it customary that the trailer dealer do the setup?
If its not customary how much am I looking at money wise? |
if your buying a new trailer from Loadrite they should be able to set up the trailer ....if they are wanting to charge extra to setup the trailer I would find another builder......m

If its not customary how much am I looking at money wise? With a custom builder the bunks would have been welded in place for your specific boat. |
If I knew I was keeping my boat for a few more years I would get a Myco and sell you my loadright. But I am kinda bored with my boat so will probably move up soon.
|
what do you guys suggest? I have a 5k budget on a trailer. Should I be able to find an aluminum trailer set up correctly with this budget?

Call Manning Trailers ... they wanted 7500 for a custom Aluminum trailer for my 311 .....Its been a year or more though ....
http://www.manningmarine.com/manningmarinebrochure.pdf Give them a call they look much better than a loadright. If the can do it for 7500.00 Put 2500 on a CC You will not be happy with a loadright. |
ehhh 7500 looks like a lot. I just purchased a boat so my funds are tight for the next month or so. I shouldnt say tight, but I have spent far more than I wanted too already.

Make sure ....the rating is ok for your 292 ... I would say 10K? |
yea wet weight is about 8000 lbs...
how much do these aluminum trailers weigh? 1000 lbs? if so it gives me 1000 lb wiggle room. all the trailer manufacturers "float-on", "fastload", "rocket", and "all american" were fitting me with the same size trailer.... |

Just fyi - this is what the bunks look like on my Prestige trailer for the 292. Supports it nice in all the right places. After receiving their first 292 they took measurements on the hull and designed a trailer.

i just bought this trailer...
http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o35371-en.html i need to modify it to fit a 292 stepped hull...what is the easiest method. i think the middle bunks need to be dropped but what about the outside bunks? thanks. |

On the 353 the first step is 1.5" and second Step is 1.25 ....So ...you will need one 2x6 placed on top of the existing bunks to run from the Transom all the way to the second step ....then starting at the begining of the second step you will need another 2x6 on top of the first 2x6 to run from there forward to the first step ... First you will need to check the angle cut on the existing Bunks ....292 is 23* on both steps and the the bow is 25* ...I think ...check the diagrams you have ....Best way would be to have new bunks cut out of Cypress but costly ....and I am not sure if my way is not just fine ......I would glue and lag bolt the 2x's to the bunks ..countersunk ....m |
would the 2x6's sit right on top of the existing bunk or on the inside?

should i aim to support both steps or can i just do one...
i think i understand what your saying...cut an angle in the main bunk and attach the 2x6's to accommodate each step...hmmm |

update...
so we put the boat on the lift this afternoon...we made some measurements and have to make the cuts tomorrow morning...some more minor adjustments may be needed but it shouldnt be too difficult the trailer is def a little long for a 29 foot boat. i need to move the wench back about 2 1/2 feet to match with the bow eye... i figure i can use the additional space for a nice tool box...ill take some pictures tomorrow. |

If needed you could pull the bolts out of the bunks and slide them forward some and redrill new holes .....m |
well my boat is only 7700 wet so only about 770 lbs up front...
i had it slid up more but seemed like too much weight was forward... roughly where is the center of gravity on these boats? |
i have it setup pretty much like this...
http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o34553-en.html the two wheels are in between the start of the windshield... unfortuantly my trailer is a little longer in the front however i have a spare plus ill put a tool box on to take up some room. |
