Question...........why did Formula install the bilge pumps and associated float switch on a small unfinished aluminum plate on each side? Look at this $hit.

Is it an attempt to keep the pump and switch level? If so.....why not mount it on stainless or finish the metal? Why would it need to be level?

I'm replacing with new pumps and a "digital" float switch (no moving parts). :rolleyes::rolleyes::drink:

The floats work better when level. If they are at an angle they will suck air about the same time as if at an angle anyway. So unless you have a flat spot in the bottom of the keel then what they did is about all you can do, or mount them to the stringer. As for the Allum. vs. Stainless I guess it really does not matter. Stainless would look the same as what the allum does less the galvanic corrosion.

My concern would be on the size of the pumps. Those look real small to me for that size boat?

Nort, I had a lot of corrosion on all the various raw aluminum bits in my boat as well. Take them all (including the supports for the platform in front of the engines and get them media0blasted, then powdercoated white. That'll fix 'em. Good idea on the solid state switches. Use Deutsche or Weatherpack connectors when you put them back in in case one craps out on you in the future.
