Default Strainers on a 382?

Looking at taking care of some water pickup problems before the motors go back in. Where has everyone installed their sea strainers? any pics? any best practices?

Thanks

Mine is located just the port side of midline near the belt on the port engine.

I installed strainers on my '99 382 Poker Run Special. Can post some photos when I get home to my desktop.

I think they are below the water line. There is a shut-off valve in front of it so if you take the lid off.....well.....you get the idea.

What problems were you having? Where is your water pick up now? I had strainers in mine and removed them. My pick ups were just behind the last step and the strainers kept filling with air so we plumbed back to the drives to try and keep impellers alive. Last year I wen through 3 sets of impellers and housings and I got really tired of it. Hoping this helps.

Here is the original and updated versions of the strainers in my 2000 382. I left them in their original location, but relocated the in and out fitting locations and added shutoff valves.

More details on this thread.

LOL! Those photos look familiar! Funny - even though we both sourced our stainless ball valves from McMaster, yours have yello handles, mine white. I wonder if that's because I opted for the locks on mine?
