Shorty Gearcases
#1
Anybody ever try a 1" or 2" shorter drive gearcase on a Fastech hull? What were the results? I am told that raising the drive height usally will increase speed about 2 mph for every 1", is this a good rule of thumb? Any other tips for drive upgrades, like extension boxes? Thanks for any constructive input.

Formula271 I have 2" shorter lowers on an older (1989) 272SR1 and I gained about 4 mph on top but I went from 3 blade to 4 blade props so it could have been another 1-2mph. I went from a best of 67 GPS to 71 GPS.
I had to go to 4 blades for planing, even with Hydromotive 4 blades I have a lot of trouble still but Bravo1s are okay (still not as good as it was with 3 blades originally). Interestingly I still get about 10% slip even with 3 blades (when it eventually gets on plane).
Hope this is useful I know you are looking for info on the Fastech hulls.
I have since added some Whipples and it's now in the low 80s GPS.
