Just got a 382. Now I need a heavier truck. Can I get by with a 2500 or a 250? Most trips will be less then 10 miles. Trailer is a steel 3 axle Prestige with electric brakes. The transporters raved about how well it traveled the 1000 miles. They had a 3500 single and felt that a 3/4 ton would work. Like to get other opinions.

I had a 2500 Suburban when we bought our 382. The Burb isn't a true 2500 and it struggled. I would get the to ramp with sweaty palms.
Had to buy a truck and since it wasn't going to be a daily driver I bought a dually. A true 3/4 will be OK but I wanted more than "OK".

The 2500 HD even in gas trim has alot higher tow capacity than the 2500 (non HD) suburban. Tow rating on my 2500 Burb was around 8,000-10,000 lbs........the 2500 HD gets up towards 15,000 and the entire suspension system is an upgrade, plus the allison tranny doesn't even fit in the burb.

but you cant put a Allison in a G Van either and GM offers the 2500 G van with a Duramax and a 4L80E...you dont need a Allison to be a 3/4 ton truck..
The 2500 HD pick up is not rated for 15.000lb..
been a GM Master tech at the same Chevy Dealer for 26 years.. the 2500 Chevy Suburban is a true 3/4 truck
