Chuck, on the day of the Boating Magazine test the boat was actually closer to 21,000 lbs (fully loaded tanks). And we did break 70 that day with similar fuel burn figures!

Not my boat, I have been in contact with the factory on all numbers for Power options, doing my HW so I know which power plant I am going to choose when I order a new 400SS. Waiting on second set of numbers for th D6-400 have them for the G6 props just waiting for the G7 numbers when the weather breaks and Formula has time. The numbers above were the average not the highs and lows. But regardless 70mph and not too far off the 525 numbers for GPH and MPG for RPM comparision. Merc 525EFI @ 5kRPM 56.7mph, 75gph, .76mpg, @ 3500RPM 39.6mph, 43.2gph, .92mpg

Would love to have those engines in my 400 but looking for distance cruiser not go fast. so far the D6-400 is 50mph should go 53/54with G7?

Those Diesel numbers in the 300 mile range is very interesting to me too. We are back and forth on the fence between a 382 and 400 but the long range is a premium feature for the 400 as much as the speed is for the 382. Then to complicate the mix throw in the Ilmor's. :lolhit:

The Ilmors are an incredible package, but really are more suited to the 382. If you haven't ridden on a diesel 400SS, you're in for a treat. The torque of the diesels is amazing. Easily the fastest SS option to 40 mph and incredible fuel mileage. The Volvo Penta package is well-proven, and doesn't smell or sound like diesels. I'm going for the diesel package when I order my 400.

No I haven't ridden on a diesel 400 SS yet. I'm looking for an opportunity to get that feel.

I rode the 382 with 700NXT and liked it. We require a generator and buying used there aren't that many boats to choose from much less find with the genny. Several 700NXT in the poker series are out there but none with a genny.

We wonder how much the shower is key for over-nighting. That is where the scales seem tipped to the 400.

Both are great boats.
