Has anyone run -2 shorties on a 382 w/o extension boxes? Putting 572's (700 HP) and IMCO SC's on a 1999 and was considering going with -2 lowers. Using 32P Maximus 5 blade props from Bblades.....anyone done this or something similar? Concerned about getting on plane but I think 5 blades will help.

Of course I have a 353 with -2 Sportmasters on boxes with Maximus props.
Getting on plane with them was and still is not a problem, but I did space them back down 1/2" to reduce the slip up top. I am going another 1/2 this year for a total of 1" and see what happens.
I guess my point is, be prepared to shell out the dough for spacers to dial it in. At $1000-$1200 a set, tuning can get pricey. Dont forget drive oil too, last time i checked they weren't giving that away either. Just giving you the heads up. Good luck!

I agree with Dave's post. Think you might be playing with fire and ending up spending a ton of money with not much in return. Formula spent a lot of time getting these dialed in, I wouldn't consider doing this on mine.

Not the same thing but I can provide some info. I had a 2002 382 without boxes. I ran a set of 32 Bravos without much issue but tried a set of 32's that were 1/8 smaller in diameter and noticed issues when on plane in crossing winds. One prop would loose it's bite of the water and surge 200-300 rpms occasionally. That 1/8th inch made a difference and based on that I suspect a problem running 2 inch shorties unless they are full 15 5/8 Maximus.

Ok guys. Thanks for the input. I think Ill stick with what I got for now and see how the boat runs with the standard lowers first. Anyone have any speed estimates on my boat with 700'S ??? I know what Brett from Bblades told me it would run, but real world #'s are nice.
thanks again...

My 540's made 630hp/700tq full dressed on a dyno. 30P Bravos were the fastest (86-87@ 5,600) but I propped the boat for mid-range. 32P Bravos and those oversized Maximus I listed earlier ran 56-58@ 3,500 and 83@ 5,250.
Depending on whether 700hp being a dressed block or not you'll need 32P Bravos and should run over 90 under ideal conditions.

If it runs 90+ , Im a happy man....89 and lower....l
, I'll have some tweaking to do. Brett at Bblades says mid 90's with his props, but I think thats kinda high. We'll see. He has my props now.

Brett is a great guy! He has done all of my prop work with very good results. You get what you pay for!
