I am not sure I think it is right in line. People will pay for the clean 271's because of the fact that the single vs twins makes them REALLY nervous and the perception is they are looking at more gas, maintenance, props, drives, engines etc. So when they rationalize it they are only giving up 2ft and a lot of headaches. Remember 242's (and the 311 but for the sake of this discussion) are STILL highly sought after and people will pay for the clean ones sometimes as much as 311. People who are still looking for a single engine formula without going the 240/260 route don't have much choice except to go with the 271. But also people looking for more of a starter performance boat from Formula aren't going to think about anything with twins usually. Now Pond your's is a highly factory optioned (and custom optioned) 292 that I would expect to demand more money but if you are comparin a clean 271's price to an okay conditioned 292 I would expect them to be the same $ just my opinion |

I dunno it all depends. I know guys that use their boats one week a year for a trip to the sanbar and one fill up. I also know people that use their boat every day in the summer but it is to go for an cruise then idle/drive to wave at all the neighbors on the shoreline. We have a VERY short season. most boats in my neighborhood go in the water in June and are ready for winterization labor day weekend (litterally you will see the boats piled up in the lot waiting for winterization). Also they will most like only get used on weekends and that is if it is nice weather. Also a lot of of the older crowd even though retired will not run their boats until kids or grandkids come up. All depends on where you boat.
1. routinely run there boat every weekend if not close to everyweekend for 2+ hours 2. let the boat sit and use it periodically. very rarely do you find someone who runs there boat every weekend for 1 hour at a time. |

Engine is out, might just be a head gasket but my engine guy is checking it. Know more tomorrow when its apart. Hydrolocked and its not exhaust with the exhaust off and the plugs out when a hose is hooked up to the flush port water comes out of the #1 cylinder. If the piston is ok and nothing got hurt will just cut the heads and be back in a week or so. If its hurt bad will probably wright the rest of season off and explore options, probably just repower. Thanks to everyone for you concern, I think it was that damn fresh water I ran the boat in last month:evilb:. |

Thats an option, my engine guy says I should just rebuild when I'm ready and pro-charge. Heard good and bad about them but Wassup Engines has done a bunch with no problems. Was told I could see mid 80s with them. If its just head gaskets will fix for now but if its a full rebuild can't see doing it to run the same speed again.

ILMOR's! come one we need a guinea pig
These sure are pretty. |
They are pretty...but when they go, they go BIG and sometimes with little warning. Been down that road and will not travel it again. My 575 SCi head gasket went and burned across three cylinders and ruined the block not to mention the internals and head. My mechanic said he had never seen such damage and has done performance boats for many years! It was a racing motor and gave its all with the computer compensating until it blew. I only noticed a 150rpm decrease the day it happened. That could be attributed to anything and it was a hot humid day. Ran like a demon until the second it went. Could you have caught the problem? Cubic inches for me! The Ilmors would be the ticket!:evilb:

Got a lead on a Baja 33' and a Formula 353. Absolutely love the 292, but who doesn't want to go bigger if the right deal comes along!:daz:
