292 fastech. Once your up on plane say 40mph, I can back off to 30 and maintain plane. But if I dont reach 40 first I get a wicked hop and must slow back down to idle and get ontop again or burry the drives and get up to 45ish and it will settle back down. I guess its just how the water starts flowing under the hull. I take the steps, 70 mph with small blocks is not too shabby, mid range is *****en, and the 2.5 mpg isnt bad either.

Bumping an old thread I know, but aren't the newer boats built better? I thought I'd read the new ones are all composite construction and the decks are glassed to the hulls. The old ones are glued and bolted.

As an all around recreational boat ....Diego's '89 272 SR-1 with BBC's, 25" Mirage Props and K Planes ...it planes at 2200 RPM and 27 MPH.

This is perfect for tubing, skiing, a slow cruise or what ever you want to do. If the need arises it will scream up to 65 at 4300 RPM!! We figure with proper Prop tuning it could see 70.

We have negotiated 8' breakers in inlets and run 35 MPH in 3~5' seas off Miami Beach. You put it in a hard turn and it bites hard.

That's a lot of versatility guys.

I have been asking this question also! Will my boat go slow enough to stay on plane to wakeboard? Motors tucked full tabs? About 20mph is all you want on a wakeboard!! The wake these boats put out at low speeds would be fun to jump!! I haven't pulled a tube either and 30mph is moving on a tube for kids!! I'm sure the extra drag will hurt keeping it on plane also!!!! We used to wakeboard alot and it doesn't like much speed!!!

We have a 93 271 that stays on plane easy at 20 mph with 4 blade hydros think they are 22 pitch. I think you would be ok with the right props for what you want to do.

I didn't run mine enough last year to really learn a lot, but the three times I did run it I had Solas 4 blade aluminum props on it, 21 pitch. Really came out of the hole well and planed quickly. I am hoping to be able to hold a plane at or just below 20 mph. The Solas props can be had brand new delivered for $150 each, less if you find them used. Yeah, aluminum, I get it. but you are looking for a prop for lower speed pulling, not top speed. If you run with 21p 3 blade stainless normally, look for a set of 4 blade 19's.

Or wait a couple of months and hopefully I have some good info on minimum planning speed on mine.

Two years ago we were tubing behind my brothers pontoon boat. It would top out at 20 to 21 mph, thought that would be perfect for tubing with the kids. Well, with a few people on board and my 6 year old little girl back on the tube, we managed about 19 max and she kept telling us to go faster. So 20 to 25 would probably be just fine on the tube.

Also, I have noticed that I throw a pretty good wake below 20 mph. While it would suck gas, having the boat plowing some might be perfect for wake boarding!

Formula glues and screws, not glassed over. Not to long ago there was a thread about 382's coming apart at the rub rails.

We have had both a 272 sr-1 and a 382 sr-1, I have pulled the kids behind the 272 powered by 383's 425 Hp and did great the boat ran 69.8 on gps , and would stay on plane to pull a hydroslide. The 382 powered by 515's 575Hp will run 69 to 71 and can stay on plane @ 20 MPH on GPS but I do have 380 tabs on her !!!
