What is the difference in the LS and the SR1 ? Besides the windshield.

The couches look like they should open from the top seems like there would be lots of storage under there but I can't figure out how to open them!!

The cabin couches do not open. There is two stringers in each one, the one one the outside you see and another one inboard about 9 inches. They are capped with plywood that is "kinda" glassed together. Some holes are drilled in the top piece of wood and the cavaties are filled with expanding foam that does a wonderful job of holding moisture. That is then covered with the carpet liner and the cushions put on top. No storage underneath. (This all assumes your 84 is the same as my 86, which I think they would be.)

You can see some wonderful details in my rebuild thread on the center stringer, both front and rear fuel tank bulkheads and the forward stringers. Under the formula section, just sort by replies or views and you will find my thread on the first page.

I believe the bottom hull mold is the same. The top is different. Four vents instead of one, rounded windshield, shaping all the back, dashboard and the interior.

Thanks Brian I've looked at those couches several nights with beer in hand pondering the storage area to be had!!! Lmao you must have a real project with your boat?

I bought a 1984 Formula 272 this summer! Love it! Does anyone know what I should be getting for a top speed? I've reached 57mph at 4000 rpm with 2 people and 3/4 tank of fuel! 23p ss props

u mean 5k don't ya? welcome.

On my formula (different boat I know) with my 23 and 1.5:1 I am running about 52gps at 4000 so I assumed either tachs off or speed was off the speedo.

I look forward to seeing some pics, I love the old formulas...

4000 rpm running 23p 3 blade Quicksilver SS cleavers. Gps and speedometer have been off and on within 2mph up to 45 cruising. Did not gps the 57mph will have to wait till summer to try that again! But tachs still won't go above 4000 when running wot ! they seem to be fine if I trim to far tach goes up speed starts to go down!! I don't know what gear ratio is on lower units! Also have engin synchronizer lights to keep them matched at same rpm! Maybe just pushing to much weight for horsepower to prop ratio?

I had a 86 272 with the same issue. I sold it,guy that baught it said he replaced the throttle cables due to stretching,,,,, Said he picked up about 800rpm with new cables. I would think you could adjust this at carbs???
