I have been thinking about pulling my boat to Florida for a vacation. Can anyone tell me the real effects of the salt water on my boat for a week of use in salt water? I've heard don't ever let your boat touch salt water! Lol but what about all the boats in Florida how do you handle the salt water??

-If your pulling the boat out after runs flush engines until thermostats open and exhaust water runs fresh

-make sure zincs are good -mercathode working if you have it.

If it will stay in the water, i wouldn't worry too much, I know many people that have raw water engines for years and years in salt water. One thing about running salt water is any spray over the bow/windshield/hull sides etc. will leave crusty salt residue that is abrasive. It helps to have a fresh water hose to wash this off.

You sound just like me in 1976. I was 23...advancing in my job and my boss came in my office in January and said he was sending me to Miami to deal with an engineering problem on a job. I flew out the next day and when I left Birmingham , AL is was 28 * with snow flurries. Two hours later I landed in Miami and it was 75* at 7 PM!!! Two weeks later I was promoted to District Engineering Manager and I've been in South Florida ever since!!:evilb::evilb: I bought my first Formula a year later and been hooked on the brand for 35 years.

South Florida and Formula boats...a great combination!!

Nice Boat. The 350's with Vortec Heads, a moderate roller cam, Edelbrock Air Gap intake w/ 750 Holley double Pumper will put close to 750~800 Horsepower in the water with twins. A 272 LS with that power will see 70~75 MPH with 23" Mirage Plus pushing 6000 RPM. Alphas won't stand that for long...Bravo I's for years. ...just giving you some potential numbers. A 272 needs 750 plus in the water to do 70.

My friend Diego's 272 see's 63 honest GPS with twin 454 BBC's making 350 each...spinning 25" Mirage on Bravo I's. I drove it....I know.:evilb:

I did things a little backwards!! I lived in Venice Florida in the mid 80's then moved to Kansas in February int the middle of a blizzard!!!! Got stranded in ST Louis in the blizzard!!! Wow it's even worse when you write it down!!!

I won't really know what's in my motors until I have to open them up! They sound really strong so I'll probably just enjoy it for a couple of years!!! Until the need for speed really bites me hard!!

Crude Intentions 03-05-2013 10:38 AM

I'm gonna start building motors while mine are still running so I'm ahead of the game. Lol. Nice boat. Salt water to me isn't as bad as everyone says if you take care of it and clean and flush it.
