New to me 382: need help on best prop / spin in vs. out...

After years in a 370 and reading the posts here about the fastechs I had to bite the bullet and grab a 382... The question now is whether or not it is propped perfectly and if I should continue to spin the props out from top dead center or in. I have read the threads and unfortunately they seem to contradict each other from time to time (go figure)... I would love to get the current final answer on what prop to use with this setup from those of you that have experience... Here is the case... (pics to follow tomorrow)

2001 fastech
500 EFI 's stock
275 hours
Bravo 1X drives on boxes
No gen
Has a/c
Currently running 28 pitch bravo non labbed spinning out.
Getting roughly 5100 @ 71-72mph

Could possibly pull better numbers, I've only been at the helm for a day and I am sure that there is some driver error in there...

Questions are...
What prop?
Labbed or non?
4 or 5 blade?
In or out?

I appreciate any help.......

Stick with the 4 blade 28's. easier on drives. Send them to Bret at Bblades and have them labbed.Got me a few mph.71-72 with 500's ,gen, and a/c is pretty good.Enjoy

I had my 2002 382 running 98 at one point and never owned it with stock motors........but 71-72 sounds about right w/ 500's. I agree, stick with 28's. Mine did great on 4 blades (34's) but started blowing drives on 5 blades.

edit: Mine spun "out", never tried "in" since my previous 312 didn't dock well spinning "in".

Thanks guys. Any opinion on spinning in vs. out?

I would say keep them spinning out from a docking standpoint. I had the props turning in on my old 357 and didn't notice any chage at all other than it made docking a real pain in the ass.

I'm in the same boat so to speak... my new 2002 382 also has non-lab 28 bravos, and I'm getting 67-68 at 5000 to 5100 RPM. The slip seems awful high to me. My boat is loaded up with gen ac etc. Was hoping to at least be in the low 70's.

Spinning in is bad for docking? Tell me how that is? My 357 seemed a little less nimble than I expected, after driving a 382 that spun out, and I wondered what was causing it. The steering is stock and seems to be very floppy and free behind the boat, with no external rams, but what I felt didn't seem to come from steering; still it didn't seem to move as well as expected. What is different with "in" VS "out" at the dock?

I have a 2000 w/500 EFI's and I also run 28's spinning out and have seen 74 at 5300 rpm's. I have A/C no Gen

Are the props labbed? Is 74 on speedo or GPS?

Thanks

Are there any quick and relatively easy / cost effective ways to grab a few top end mph with this setup? What has worked and what has been a flop? I would like to see high 70`s almost 80...

Advice would be great before put $$$ in dumb stuff...

Thanks
