I have seen cherry ones go for as low as $8K here within the past year.

The big blocks came stock with 25 mirages. Mine bone stock turns them 4600 to 4800 depending on load. 350s came with 23 mirages. It would be hard to pick up a mint twin engine boat up here for 8k maybe one that needed work

I guess the difference here is that there aren't many of that type boat here and they aren't very popular with most boaters in SE Florida. Those of us with Sport Boats down here are definitely in the minority...even though this is the birthplace of that style of boat. on any given weekend year round here in SE Florida the number one boat you will see is a 30' Twin outboard center console. They are roomy and easy to get in and out of and now with big 4 stroke out boards just about as fast as most sport boats anyway.

Don't get me wrong...I love my boat and enjoy the nostalgia but boats of the type most of us have are not popular everywhere. I have had friends come down from the NE and remark at the number of Center Console Boats here as opposed to the traditional Sport Boat. That may be the reason for the price difference. Unless a Sports Boat is a newer Cigarette, or tricked out Skater it doesn't draw much attention here from the general boating public in South Florida. The Florida Powerboat Club has recognized this and opened up it's Poker Run Events to Center Console Boats in an attempt to lure more local boaters to it's events.

I agree 100%. Also I was assuming price would include a tandem axle galvenized trailer and those arent cheap

I think it's safe to say it's all about where you live. I have a few friends with center cockpit boats but they now regret owning them. Being in the northern part of the country they are very cold to ride in and you can't over night in most of them. Either way IMO $14,000 for a nice condition 272 is a great deal. You can't even buy a new 17 foot Bayliner with base power for that. Take the boat to a reputable mechanic and have them go over the engines, most surveyors won't get into the engines very deep so don't rely on a survey to get detailed engine info.

Well I recently purchased a 90 272 with 600 hours, twin big blocks motors which have about 200 hours on them with a triple axle trailer and it was more than 14K.

When I was looking online in October of 2012 I saw a couple of 272's listed from 14K - 20K what they sold for is another story but that was list prices....

I'm very happy with my purchase, only thing wish the silent thunder was a little less silent... Might need to change it in the future my buddy put in captains call on his 86' 206 sounds awesome....

To put a bit more rumble in your silent thunder take a 3 1/2 or 4" hole saw and cut hole in the bottom. I've done this with every Formula I've owned and been happy with the sound. It's cheap and easy!

I also bought a 272 last year and I read a post on here that said expect to spend$10k more on it after you buy it doing general maintenance repairs that have been neglected and things to make the boat your boat!!!! That probably isn't that far off!!!!

88242LS 07-24-2013 09:50 PM

if u buy the right one you wont have to spend that after purchase

endeavour32 07-24-2013 10:03 PM

There is no way your going to spend $10,000 on "general maintenance" repairs. That should include rebuilding the carbs, $35.00 per carb. Plugs, wires, cap rotor $100 per engine. Change the oil- $50 per engine, change the drive fluid- $40-50, and just to be safe change the gaskets on the exhaust elbows- $30 per engine. Thats a grand total of $530.00. Even if you had a valve job done on it you wouldn't be any were near that $10,000 price. Valve job would run about $1000 per engine plus labor if you cannot do it yourself. Come on guys- whats up with these scare posts that are total B.S.?
