I can check with the owner but I would assume there would be a small fee. Are you planning on spending the night on the boat?

Also what kind of boat do you have?

Hi there! I'm considering heading down from Point Pleasant for this event. It's almost embarrassing to admit, but I've never taken my boat down to Tices, so I'm a little hesitant. I usually just play out in the bay for a bit and head back to the lift. Not exactly the same, but I often look at F-Cove and consider giving it a go however the congestion keeps me away... Since I'm a novice at meeting up (not at boating... I got my first boat about 20 years ago), what are some things I need to know?

Hey iheartmy206ls - I see you lost a 206. Was that boat previously owned by Tony?

Meeting up is easy. Everyone needs a first time and once you do it and become part of a regular group it becomes addicting finding different spots to go to socialize with people with common interest. The best thing is if you hang with the right kind of people which MOST Formula boat owners are, we are there to help each other learn. Heck anyone who says they are a pro at boating and never makes mistakes is a liar -

Few things to have if you are going to a place like TICES to do a raft-up like the Rendezvous is:
- Have at least 4 lines and a handful of fenders (lots of people use the felt fender covers to extra-protect the gel coat and imron)
- Have an anchor with enough line/chain to anchor if needed
- Have a cooler with ICE and beverages of your choice - food too!
- Have sunscreen lol

- Ok pulling up to park/raft-up next to someone you want to come in slow. Prepare lines and fenders on cleats on the side you are attempting to raft up to.

- Pull in slow (never bow first). Pull the boat in so the boat almost stalls parallel next to the boat you are tying up to but about 2-3 feet away. Give enough distance where you can toss over a line and be able to be pulled in. **** REMEMBER WE have all the time in the day to help you in safely, if you want to back off and attempt again no worries!

- Once you are all settled in crack open a cold one and take a deep breath. Time to have some fun!

Funny thing is Brian (Splitdecision), Bill (PanicAttack) and a few others that have become good friends of mine were met through the very first Birds on the Bay Rendezvous. I met Tony(TurboZ) and family at F-Cove even before that! We are now on our 4th year and have met a lot of great people along the way. Socialization makes boating even more fun. We do days at Tices, we meet up for dinners at restaurants on the water. We take trips to Atlantic City. Traveling by boat with the buddy system not only takes a lot of stress and worries away but it is safer and a lot more fun.

Email me at [email protected] and I can answer anymore questions you have and I can also put a rsvp down for you. Are you looking to join us for the dinner the night before at Captains Inn on the Forked River also?

Also follow us on Facebook - Formula Owners of New Jersey

Be great to see you out there!

A BIGGGG thank you one of our fans Doug Blum(slugoslugo) for ordering some of our Formula Owners of New Jersey decals from Implicit Decals to hand out at the BIRDS ON THE BAY Rendezvous Tices Shoal September 1st. Unfortunately Doug will not be able to attend the Rendezvous due to a wedding, but lets give him a big Thank You here!

Spoke with the owner of Captain's Inn and that won't be problem, there is just a $50 fee for the slip overnight. That would help you out as long as you have a ride back and forth to the island. Plus there will be a few boats coming out of the Forked River the following morning you can run over to Tices with for the Rendezvous.

Sounds like things are heating up. Good to see!

357 there are several marinas in close proximity to captains. I can literally see the captains inn from the marina I will be staying overnight at. Transient slips can range from $1 to $1.50 per foot along the river depends on the marina. If interested PM me I can give you some recommendations of where others are planning on staying. I know there is comfort in numbers, plus peace of mind knowing there will be someone there to keep an eye on things you know.
