The 311 had a 17 15/16" VDO sender, VDO part #224 066. Go check at www.egauges.com.

How in the Hell do you get the tube style sender in without damaging it? I pulled my old sender out this weekend and it came out in pieces. I replaced it with a float arm style sender for now but am still not getting the gauge to respond to it. When I jump across the terminals on the sender the gauge does move. The sender I installed is a VDO 226-001 (10-180 ohm).

I believe the 224-066 is 90-0 Ohm. That would make sense that my new 10-180 ohm sender isn't moving the gauge when the tank is half full it is showing somewhere around 90-100 ohm which would read empty on the 90-0 ohm gauge.

Yes the gauge requires a 90 to 0 ohm sender. You have to remove the rear seat back and drill a hole with a hole saw directy above the sender to slide it up and out

I measured the old sender at exactly 1.500" dia., ordered a new sender (90-0 ohm) from tanks inc. that measures 1.440" dia. Hoping I can slide it in there at a slight angle and if not I will do as you suggested. Thanks for the info!

So the new sender slid right in (Tanks Inc. brand). Problem is it reads backwards. It is I believe a 0-90 ohm rather than 90-0 ohm. I'm so over this other than there was already a hole in the seat back bottom for it to go through, very easy. Easy fixes are never easy i guess.

Just spoke with Tanks Inc. and they confirmed the original sender is backwards from what they sent. What Formula used was 90E-0F and what I have is 0E-90F. Very odd according to them. They suggested their Metermate programmable fuel sender interface which will let me program the guage to the sender so that the outputs read what I want regardless of ohm range of either. Interesting device, i'm going to try this route and will post my findings.
