The 336 is a 1994. Currently has no external steering or tie bar and never did from the factory. Cost is a factor. Does it really need it? How about just adding a tie bar and calling it a day?

What speeds are you running?? My 33ol has a tie bar and no ext steering... I did just change my pivot pins to tighten up the slack and fix a leaking seal. I am running mid 60s wot, and usually cruising 50's so I am contemplating ext hyd steering myself.. it would be nice, but now that I have tightened the slack, I "should" be good!

My 357 was only tie bar from the factory with 420's and TRS which tested at 62 MPH. Drive yours and see how it handles the speed. If it does the speeds you mentioned then I would definitely run a tie bar. If that seems close but not quite good one other level you can try without getting into big money is an external steering damper to stiffen up the drives at speed. With low 70's you might get buy with some accessories like this just fine. If not then external steering.
