382 Opinions

We had a 2002 382 with all the options........including Procharged 500's. Ran a best of 98 on GPS!!!! As mentioned it's a big heavy boat that takes a lot of power to move. However, compared to a 353 the cabin is HUGE! Since we overnight often that was what we wanted. The 353 would be a mustang whereas the 382 would be an excursion.

To answer your question on speed, Formula test data on a 2005 382 with 525's turned in a top speed of 74.05 mph turning a set of 5 blade 26 pitch props.... Fully loaded wet weight was 12,437 lbs.......
My particular 382 has turned a best top speed of 81.3 mph with 580 hp per side.

I agree with Riggs. 525 and 600 boats run very very close. If you want to go fast, look for a 700 boat. The 382 would be a blast with that power.

I just bought a 2013 382 with Ilmor 725s and I've seen 90.5 GPS so far but there was some power left and Im still learning the boat, e.g., trim. The 382 is quite heavy, especially moving from a 32 Dominator, albeit, the ride is incredibly stable. You may even consider it an easy ride in comparison to my Sunny. Cruising at 70 is similar to how the Sunny felt at 45.

I resemble that remark. My 382 with 700 NXT was a totally different boat after the upgrade. 97 not a few ticks over 90. Probably over 100 with herrings? The Merc cleavers carried the bow WAY WAY different than the Bravo props. Leaps up on plane, No hesitation, No struggle. Finally turned out because I wanted less lift on the bow. Ran at 95+ super stable on the center pad. Not even comparable to a bravo boat!!

I set my X dimension at 1" above the straight line bottom of the boat, about 3/4" higher than the factory. On a inital setup you can always go down, but never up. I don't know much about the ilmore indy drives. When i switched to turning out I had to put 1" spacers in to maintain bite on getting on plane. Turning in was faster though, that where I had the best speed. Turning out was a happier ride at 60-70. I lost about 2 mph with the turning out switch. Bought a 400SS in Harrison Twnshp. Bob Parcells helped me get ready for our east coast tour. Breakfast at Boat Town Willies and a West Marine...What more do you need!
