I've been around these boats for 15+ years, and I would not buy that boat without a survey unless it was $2500.
(Why $2500? Because you could part it out and that's the LEAST you would make.)
The boat has bottom paint. That means at some point, someone thought it was AOK to leave it in the water for "some time."
The trailer is also too short for the boat, which also raises a big flag for me on hook in the aft section of the hull.

That boat isn't an 87, and for that much money is keep looking into other options

Agree, but not everyone has that kind of time, nor the skills. Plus, rot could be anywhere: transom, stringers, floor, tank supports, etc. etc.
Such is why having a professional do the work is important. 30 hours of a professional's time: BIG bucks.

I bought an older boat sight unseen that had been "hardly used & stored inside for decades." The transom appeared solid when I took delivery, and even when we took the outboard off to mount a jack-plate; nothing presented as a problem.

The first trip out only lasted 30 minutes before the transom cracked, and I was worried about losing the motor in the lake! Thank goodness we put some aluminum backer plates in when we installed the jackplate. Come to find out, there were some inadequacies in how the boat was built in the first place. Lesson learned.

IMO the price deduction on the boat should be for what it would cost to have a professional do the work not doing it yourself. This repair would cost around 5 grand easy to have professionally done. You have to pull the motor, remove everything on the transom, cut out the glass, remove the old wood, make new pieces, re glass everything back in, paint, put it all back together, align engine.... Plus while you have everything apart that is no doubt you will do things like replace bilge pumps and other things on the motor.

Now I'm a little hesitant to buy it haha and unlimited.. You said it's not an 87?? What year do you think it is? And why don't you think it's an 87?? Anyway I can check to see what year it is besides the title or registration?

Mentalpause 04-11-2016 07:37 AM

Should be a serial number stamped into the transom that shows the year.

Bravo drives weren't out until late 1988, it may have been swapped but I doubt it, and the windshield would've been flat glass on an 87 formula. That one looks like an 89.

87 was curved glass
