Need help! Might be buying a boat tomorrow and don't know what it's worth!

Hey guys I'm thinking of buying an 87 formula 242 ls 454/bravo one interior has no rips and in excellent condition, only cosmetics I could find are cracked starboard side window and a cracked hatch to go downstairs. It's on a galvi trailer boat has 1200 hours and the engine only has 200 and the drive has recently been gone through 2 seasons ago aslo has cockpit cover, Bimini top and full cover I will up load some pics

Gelcoat looks terrific....A bit of elbow grease for a pure shine and transoms appears to be solid I think you've gotten yourself a great boat. Double triple check for ROT and you're a winner....:bananalove:

I can not stress enough SURVEY SURVEY SURVEY unless you really know how to look for issues. I know at this price point surveys can seem like a waist but still worth thinking about. Look for soft spots at the front of the engine bay bulkhead, transom, bulkhead at the front of the cockpit (going down stairs and that area). Just be aware that a LOT of people do not like bottom paint. It never bothered me but there are people that will not buy a boat that is bottom painted. So that can effect the value when you go to sell. If you plan to leave the boat in the water then bottom paint is the only way to go. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thank guys! I'm going again tomorrow to take another look I'll check for the rot. What's the best way to check it?? Poke it with a pole or something?

Small hammer and listen for a change in the way it sounds when the hammer hits the stringer/transom/bulkheads. If there is any question and you are not sure get some one to look at it that you trust.

My Formula 242 had a rotted transom. I would not let a transom be a deal breaker. It cost me $400 and about 30 hours of work. But don't pay rot free price for a rotted boat.
