This video was Formula testing my 2012 382. The results above were on this boat. Top speed was 95 during testing with 130 gallons of fuel. I had this boat up to 97 mph at Newport Beach, and felt there was more to go.

WOW !!!!
I understand the triple market was destroyed because of public perception of them as gas hogs, etc etc but I thought the marine community would be a little more savey than the public.

At first I was bench marking HP and speed with just the Formula line but I see the "perception" persists. Now I will bench mark from a different boat line and why I believe triple 700's in a 419 FASTech would do 100 with no prob and is real.

The Doni 43ZR has a wider beam, which is a lot more wetted surface, with reverse triple Merc 700's NXT and the owner, of one in Fla that I know, stated it is prop limited to 120 mph due to his insurance company issues with the speed. Sure I understand that this boat is reverse and the Formula is not but the difference of reverse vs standard, I am told, is 7 mph much like the same benefit of steps. That is not enough to keep standard triples from 100 mph.

Time to ditch the perception and get real guys.

Out of the line but,

Here in Finland we do not have (or I don't know) triple engine Formulas or Donzis but we do have one Donzi ZR43 with two merc 700's that were tuned at Sterling. Don't know how many HP but last years Poker Run it did 81,5 knots so it would be about 94mph. With same kind of engines Fountain 42 did 97knots (112mph). This year the owner of Fountain bought Donzi 38 with arneson drives and put the Streling engines into that boat but only made 93,9 knots (108,7mph).

What was the power in the ZRC? Which one did he purchase? Kim Collins ran the kilo in the UK a few years back with a pair of Sterling 550 hp engines and ran close to that same speed

In 2006 I bought a used 2002 382 with 8 PSI Procharged 500EFIs. XZ (then XRs), no boxes. 34P bravo props......reported to be 830hp/side but Mark Boos said more likely about 790hp/ ea.

Best ever of 98 mph and saw 94 nearly every attempt before I went a different direction with the engines. Note, I always kept a bunch of tools/spare parts, gear on the boat because the top # really didn't matter to me.

The first Formula 382 that we did with a customer named Tony Adams and his boat has a pair of Teague 800's (509's with a 871 blower and carbs) and the best Bravo speed was 96 mph. First run with Arneson was 108.

Trips would be a good thing if you could get the deep drive outta the way over 80. The whole surfacing prop idea gets tough when you have no real clean surface coming out from the bottom of the vee or the running pad, When we were all bravo round ear props they were great, did not matter so much up to 80. I think the new surfacing technology gets lost on the center drive.
