Bahamas crossing with OSO crew

Have talked with B. Hollis and he seemed to think that a 242LS Formula was to small for the trip. What is the general concensus on this? I would love to make the trip just dont want to do something stupid. What speeds are we talking about? Loaded w/ full fuel, topend for me is only 62 to 65 and thats light chop. and really dont really care to run WAO all the way. (dont want to be left you know) But if at all possible Im game!

If it is flat you will likely be ok. That is the problem. You could get out there and have it be all good then the trip home could SUCK. It is a tough call. It is not the distance that would worry me but the water conditions along the way. The boat can make it...... Can you!!! Don Arronow did it a bunch of times in smaller boats then what you have. Of course he has the broken bones and what not to prove it I wold guess that the average speed would be in the 40's

Roger that! its not the distance that bothers me but water conditions. Do alot 150 to 200 mi. trips on the the Intercoastal and cross several sounds but open water thats another story.

I know people who have made it in smaller boats. I also know some that made the trip that had to wait more than a week for the weather to clear to make it back. Sometimes 40 and 50 footers get stuck over there because of the sea conditions in the stream. Is yours a twin?

No 502 single but there seems to be a load of boats going to make the trip. Here it is with my new truck and bride.

JROCKET, in the 242ls I am sure you could make it ,BUT when it is time to return you can never tell what will happen. My parents have a place in southern maine I have been out there when the atlantic looks like a big lake,next day wind picks up just looks nasty. what year 242? nice looking boat!

91'model, Ive had it a year and a half got it with 200 hrs on it and but a 125 on since. with a major repower. built a strong 502 for it over the spring. down for a little over a month due to a bad cam!

You should take your boat and go for it. But, just to be on the safe side, your wife should ride with me

A few years ago I had a '87 242-SR1, a great boat. I made a 30-35 mile run in 6-8's along with a 33' Fountain, a 29' Fountain, and a 311 Formula. The boat held its own in rough conditions. But, the ride sucked. Certainly not the kind of trip for the wife. The boat can handle it if it gets rough, but it could be a long miserable ride.
