Well I guess I know what I'll be doing if I get the chance before it gets too cold up here in the north

I'm just waiting for it to stop raining and I'm going out to try it out. I'm dying see what I get.
I don't mind getting beat by Scarabb's but BAJA's just ...well...you know what I mean

Sounds to me like you guy's are getting some good numbers out of this hull. My 272 will only see about 64 mph on a good day 62 mph on any day. I am spinning 25 mirage as well, they have been gone through and had a little pitch taken out. Now they should be 24 1/4 pitch, I am only seeing about 4700 rpm. This winter I am thinking about some new exhaust, posible this should give some more rpm. We love this boat though, nothing like old Formula quality.

RUSS SR1,

Hate to discourage you but I didn't see any increase when I installed my Stainless Marine exhaust, hope you have better luck.

Ian,

I have thought the same that the exhaust might not give up much without a hotter cam. then you can get into the heads and so on and so on and so on. but you got to start somwere.

IMCO thumpers are about 1/3 less than stainless marine when I priced them, and if you don't get the H.P. speed increase why bother.
I changed mine because the old ones were corroded thru and leaking water into the cyls.
OEM was almost the same as the IMCO's. so why not go better.
My valves were shot from the water so I had the heads done. Nothing special, just surfaced and new valves and seats as required.
Just one warning on the IMCO's they are not for salt water use!!!!!!!!!!
So if salt is an issue go stainless
