Good eye Oconnor. Those are Vortec style if I’m not mistaken.

Now that I have looked closer at your picture, you might want to check out your risers and gaskets. At some point they were leaking. Leaking out is one thing and leaking in is another.

Thank you, I will check them out.

I will also look for ID numbers on the block to see if the engines were changed out.

I guess it would be a good thing if they had been replaced. I know the fellow I bought them from didn't do it.

Default Valve covers

Those valve covers are aluminum. Same as mine. But my motors are the special mercruiser racing 320 efi versions only abailable 1987 to 89. Mercruiser racing before they painted them blue.

In looking at the bolt pattern for the covers, is that unusual for them to be in an 87?

Where would I look for ID numbers on the block again?

The center bolt covers are correct for your year. Thats pre vortec and vortec have center bolt covers. Stamped steel. The engine id is on the casting web above the flywheel cover near tge oil pressure seding unit.
