The Livorsi GPS speedo had $2 coin battery soldered into the external hockey-puck type antenna. They wanted $75 (+shipping?) to install a new battery every couple years. Instead, I took a piece of wire and went from my GPS data output, to the gauge data input. Depending on your marine VHF radio model, you can also use the same GPS data feed to send location data to your radio as well.

The connection will be exposed to all sorts of extreme temps and weather conditions. It really depends on what you're most comfortable with and how much work you want to do. You don't want water or moisture getting into the splice. The data wires from both devices were very thin so you could use a little dab of di-electric grease on each exposed wire to prevent corrosion before crimping. Use a piece of heat shrink tubing around the connection.
There are really nice weather resistant connectors available like weather pack, molex and others. The advantage to a weather resistant connector is you can take unplug later without having to cut wires.

How does this mount in the 3 13/16 mounting hole in the mounting plate on the dash (1988 F311)? The description says "Gauge size: 4" (3 3/8)" but I already tried an 85-87 mm gauge (which my math said would be right at 3 3/8") and it was too small for the opening.
Additionally, did it come with an antenna/speed sensor?
Thanks!

Please forgive me...I have been focused on the trim plate and not on the actual hole in the dash. As you can see in the attached picture, the 3 3/8" (85mm) gauge fits the hole (but not the trim plate. Therefore, for very little money I can have a GPS speedometer...until I decide that I want to pay 5x more for a bigger one, or switch out the tachs (or all the gauges).
Thanks for putting up with me!
