ISO plug/play, self-contained, GPS speedo
I (believe I) would like to replace my analog dash mounted speedometer with a modern GPS dial speedometer. I'd ideally like it to be a self contained kit such that I just stick it in the dash, hook up some power and it's off and running. 0-100 mph should do it.
Anyone have a good vendor? Part #? First hand experiance with doing this (positives and negatives)? Thanks, Tom |

I have been very pleased with the auto meter marine speedo. It has an external antenna, so not self contained. It has a small digital display that includes gps coordinates, compass heading,odometer,hourmeter,top speed,trip meter,and more that I’m forgetting. Hope this helps. |
Faria Chesapeake model SGP010 (80 mph model), in white or black (60 and 80 mph - had a 120, but doesn't look like it's still available). May have to call to see if 120 is available. Drop in and go, receiver is internal. Has a analog style sweep arm. Gives course over ground and actual heading (compass over ground).

2 great answers. I think that if the Auto meter comes with its own antenna that's close enough to self contained if either of you could send me links to exactly what you're talkin about that would be cool

I use a Livorsi 80 MPH GPS speedo that receives the GPS signal from my Lowrance chart plotter. The external antenna always had problems. |

Tom, my Lowrance unit is a Elite 5 to, but believe your Elite 4 has a NMEA cable coming off of it (just as mine does). If I remember correctly, the yellow com wire was used to connect to the input of the speedo. Any speedo with an external antenna should be able to communicate with it so do not fee like you must run a Livorsi (my 311 already had Livorsi gauges). You will need to tell the Lowrance to send NMEA 0183 sentences. I turned all of mine on and it worked. Some helpful reading: continuousWave: Whaler: Reference: Universal NMEA-0183 Interface |
