Bilge pump on 272
1988 272 SR1
My pump throws the switch breaker almost instantly when I try to turn it on. Flip switch, no noise from pump, few seconds later the breaker in the switch goes.
So, where is the pump and how do I get to it? Also, is there an easy way to remove the step?
Thanks

Are you talking about the rear swim step? If so, yes they can be un bolted.
My pump may be different but it could be same. Mine is at the very back of the engine compartment just to the inside of the starboard side engine stringer. It's an RV shower pump. There's a see through plastic cover over it. turn the cover counter clockwise gently so it doesn't break. Once off, there is a tube shaped screen that can get clogged. Or if the screen is gone the pump could have debris stopping it from turning. That would trip the breaker.
