Please correct me if im wrong, but the 242LS was available from 1984 until 1992 and the 242SS was available from 1989 until 1992 when both models ceased production.

New owners then had the choice of either a 235 or 255 with integral platform and a reduced 22 degree deadrise.

The following pictures show the difference in cockpit layouts for the LS and SS models:

Re: The complete 242 thread

OK,

I have a 1990 242/SS with Bravo1 and bbc/330hp turning a Mirage Plus prop.

The rig is in excellent condition with 175 hours on the standard motor and new antifoul on the hull..

I estimate the current top speed in the low 50s. I have seen 47 on gps with 4 adults and a full tank of fuel.

I have read stories of much higher speeds for this rig, so what is different then?

I may look at an engine upgrade in the future, what would be the best powerplant swap for this rig and would i have to change the sterndrive?

All advice welcome please.

I have the formula specifications book at home, I'll check the listed top speed for you tonight.

330hp 7.4 : 52mph
365hp magnum : 56mph

These speeds are tested speeds, not estimates, but are for a clean bottom, you'll lose 1 or 2 mph with antifoul I guess. (Mine has run 1.3mph below book speed, and as been antifouled as you know).

Cheers Matt,

Sounds about right then.

However some of the guys on here seem to think they are getting to 60mph!! So i guess they must be modified.

Ive seen an 8.2 litre motor for sale in Wales. What i need to decide is whether to go for one of the following:

7.4MPI
496HO
502 Mag
Bulldog

Whats going to give the best performance increase for the least amount of hassle? And what is the maximum performance i could expect to gain?

Over to you Guys.

Re: The complete 242 thread

R- Don, I would think around 500hp would make this hull wake up and be safe.

my 242ls with a 454mag 350hp on gps is 54.5 with a bravo 1 4 blade, nothing to write home about but the boat handles rough water well.

Cheers Masi,

I agree with you that its a great rough water handling boat, but upto what speed does she continue to remain so?
