I just bought the 1988 242 ss 350 mag. This is my first boat and I don't know anything about boats. I'm going to redo this boat. Any help about this boat would be helpful. It's been two years on land. Thanks

I have the 1991 model 242 SS . . .

Here is a web site I keep regarding the boat. It can help you gt familiar with your boat.

Our long time OSO Formula contributor Machloosy brings this most recent find home to this thread. He was out boating and spotted this beauty near his home in New York state.

This "Bird Heads" may be the rarest and most unique "Flat Glass" Formula we have seen.

This is a 1983 242 SR-1 with a Factory installed Silent Thunder Fiberglass platform. Seems that there was a warranty replacement hull switched in by Thunderbird Formula in 1989 which explains the Fiberglass platform. The original 242 '83 vintage inner liner and deck cap were removed from the original hull and placed on top of the 1989 replacement hull. Since '89 hulls incorporated the Fiberglass swim platform...that's what this boat now has...but wait...there's more!!!

Look closely...

See anything "odd"? How about twin Bravo III drives hanging out of the transom of a '83 242 SR-1!!! Seems that a pair of stout 383 stroker motors found there way into this rig and the owner realizing that the Alpha I's were not up to the task decided to do the whole enchilada with Bravo III Drives to complete the package. Good thinking!! I wonder how many 242 SR-1's are running around with Bravo III drives hanging out of the rear ? Hmm,,,,probably ONE!!

Here is an interior shot showing the McLeod Bolsters.

This my friends is a Very Special and Rare Flat Glass Formula...one of the most unique I have ever seen.

The owners name is "Tom'' and if Machloosy sees him again he will get more information. If anyone else knows this boat please tell the owner to join our ranks... we want to know more!!!

Does anyone know where I can get a teak swim platform for my 86 242LS. I currently have a fiber/composite one and want to go back to a teak one. I'm willing to trade or buy one outright...Please help if anyone can.
Respectfully,
Charlie

I have a 496 Mag HO in my 242 and other than a little weight on the back side I like it...Not sure what prop is best for speed but I will look and see what numbers I have, there are two more props in boxes but if anyone has good info for me as to the one that will move the best I'm willing to try it.

I would try a bravo 24 four blade looks like you will have the hp to turn it,I run a four blade 22p with just the 454/330 combo.

Hope this helps

Hi, I have an 86' 242SF w/08' 496 Mag 375hp and a 22" 4 blade Bravo 1. 24" would seem to be the number I'd try first but mine is heavier and holds 133 gallons of fuel. If you're lighter with more HP a 25" or 27" 3 blade Mirage may be better. The increase in pitch will need power and 1 less blade increases the RPM's at least 100. If you go out with light load( people, etc) than Mirage. 4 guys fishing with tackle 4 blade will jump you out of the water. I go out heavy most of the time. Joy ride I can get 54 MPH GPS with Smart Gauges.
