Default 336SR1 - How fast with twin 7.4 330hp's

What would the top speed be with this power? Cruise?
Is this boat underpowered?
Thanks

My guess would be 60 ish top end. 3000 rpm cruise 35mph perhaps.
It's it under powered? That's totally opinionated. To me , it's underpowered any time it's not scarey at WOT

Powerguy, I think alot of the 336's are out there w/ 454. mags and 502 mags. If I remember, it took the 502's to get ya close to 70mph! Wrink

wrinkleface-
I am looking at a 93 with 330's and am wondering if I would be happy with 60mph (hopefully?) or should I look for one with 454 mags or 502's. I guess I could always buy the one with 330's and change out the long blocks to 454 mag's. Most of my time is spent at 45-50mph anyway.

Powerguy, as mopower said, it is personal opinion as to if you would be happy w/ 60mph. If you do the 45-50 area, it may be right for you!!!??? Good Luck, Wrink

Offshore powerboats are a curse. You think you're happy at sixty, then someone goes by you at sixty-five, then you want seventy. It's the curse of the all mighty mile per hour. My opinion is a 336 with 330's is underpowered. Of course you could always toss a supercharger on them........

Is it underpowered-simply a matter of personal preference. No matter how much, after a season, or less, you always want more. Personally, I think for the size & weight, it needs more HP.

You are right about wanting more power. The logical swap would be to upgrade with 454 mag or 502 long blocks.

Powerguy,

Seems like it may be underpowered. Those engines are gonna hurt resale, too!

On the positive side, the boat should be a good bargain the way it is. Buy it right, pull those motors and sell them and drop in a nice pair of stock 502 EFI's!!!!!

I bet those 330's are carbed, right? Go EFI, you won't regret it.

toolman-
yes, 330 carb motors. My guess is 60mph tops. I have heard 70+ with 502's.
