My old Formula a 1992 336 SR1 with Bravo one drives did 80 mph with Teague Custom Marine 530hp naturally aspirated motors. If I remember right it did around mid 70's with stock 502 mags.

I have talked to a number of people that have swapped TRS for Bravo. It is hard to ussually know because most people that change over to Bravo's also upgrade motors and stuff. The few that I have found that just change the drives have actually LOST speed!!! Some have been a zero speed change but most say that they lost speed.

Personally I LOVE the tranny. Great shifting and it makes some stuff much easier to work on.

My '85 357 with blown 454s (540 hp) does does 75-77 (depending if you believe gps or radar). I have TRS drives and have already toasted one this summer. I also have B/W trannies modified with 9 clutches and have toasted one of those this summer also. I'm going to baby it for the rest of the summer now and keep drooling over those Konrad drives I can't afford right now. ;-)

It would definitely be easier to get 70+ mph our of a 311. 311s are big boats as you know. The 357 is hoss and the 402 is just a plain monster. My 357 actually measures 37'7" with the swim platform and it has as more room in it than a new 382. Just FYI.

I am curious about the Kamma's, is it hard to get on plane? I have heard that is an issue with surface peircing drives.

By the way, I travel alot for work and surface drives are very popular in Europe, nearly as much as stern drives.

I've heard the same, but I have no actual knowledge of TRS drives of my own. I've read that the weak link in some was the tranny. They came with two different trannies, and if I remember correctly, the Merc was the weaker of the two.

Anyone that tells you that has neither driven or ridden in a surface drive boat. I'm willing to bet that against any similarly sized and powered boat, I'd be ahead of a conventional drive boat within the first 75 yards.

bford - what are you running for props? Also are hammering down alot, or did it break under general usage?

I had a 311 with kammas that would come out of the hole as Cuda said. My 357 on the other hand is not so quick to plane. It isn't bad just not as fast as a 357 with stern drives.

jaybird - I was driving along at about 3000 rpm when the right motor just started to rev. However, I was (stupidly) hammering it hard out of the hole earlier in the day. I'm sure that's what did it. I don't think that the 540 hp is too much for the TRS. However, with those roots type blowers it makes gobs of torque and that's probably what was responsible for taking out the drive. I'm easing it out of the hole for the rest of the summer.
