Re: "New Look" transom, getting closer
Outlaw - I'm planning on going the all white route myself. I haven't got a quote for my 357. But, I know a guy with a 272 like mine who is having it done (all white paint) and was quoted only $3500 to remove all the stripes, railing, windshield, cleats, etc., prep, paint and reinstall everything. I'm sure it will end up costing a bit more. (It always does.) But, I thought that was a great deal. Of course, I'd prefer new gel coat over paint. But, I don't think I'd ever be able to get the old gel on my boat (1985) to look as good as paint.

Re: "New Look" transom, getting closer
Anybody got any idea what it would cost to "regelcoat" a boat????

Re: "New Look" transom, getting closer
I guess it depends on what you plan to do for prep work yourself if any.

Re: "New Look" transom, getting closer
Jon, I would do all the prep work myself whether I paint or gel coat. I did some asking around and no one seems to know who would regelcoat an entire boat in our area. Lots of guys do repairs, but apparently no one has the facility to do the whole thing.
Might just end up pulling it up to "the Cooderman's" and get him to help me spray it. I'm sure that would end up with a whole bunch of laughing. Plus one of us would have to be on constant guard for "the Great White Snake". |
Re: "New Look" transom, getting closer
Just Base Coat/Clear Coat it...There is a reason all the "High End" builders do this...Unless you plan on ramming docks & walking on the deck with Hooker Boots it will last fore-ever
& shine better than Gellcoat. The bottom is the only thing i would Gellcoat..More Abrasion resitant. My 02 worth.. :D |
Re: "New Look" transom, getting closer
Russ, I think Nick at Performance Plus Marine will gelcoat a boat.
