All I can say is my mother used to wax my bottom when I got out of line. And it made me run like hell if I could get away.

I boat in fresh water. i couldn't tell you if it makes a difference, but a lot of people have recommended a product called "scat". Most say it's worth a couple mph. I plan to give it a try this year.

Scat will help keep your bottom from turning green. If you leave your boat in the water all the time, it works good. It will cost you a few mph though.
my 275 Baja gps 63 mph
After wheeling out the bottom with 3M super duty rubbing compound to remove the Scat,
I saw 67 on gps.
