35' Lightning w/ 2 x 900HP
My friend has a 01' Lightning that he is repowering with 900 HP 540 CI motors. Will he have to go with 5 or 6 blade props? He has been running 4 blade props with the previous 500EFI's with prochargers. Any suggestions from previous experiences would definitely help!

Leon repowered a 35 at lake Tekoma[where I bought my 35 at] and it has 850's running xr's with 6 blade props, it runs over 110 mph, see www.dallasboats4sale.com click fountain tab on lt side. what drives are you using on the 01?
checkout www.fountaindealer.com they also have a 35 that Leon did the motors in. Check used boat section.
The boat has XR's on it. He is going to buy a spare drive to keep with him. If it is to bad on breaking drives then he was thinking of the B-MAX HT's. So that one with 750's is running 110+ they say, think we should be around 120 with the 900's? I think we are going to try and run 5 blade Hydros or those new props from Throttle-up.

Its not my money buy shouldn't 900hp be attached to #6s?

Its my boat:p ........Unfortunately, I'm pretty damn broke from these motors at this point. I would love to have #6's but dont ever see affording them. I am definitely thinking about the BMAX HT's but they may have to wait until next winter. I guess I will find out how long they will last soon enough. I will be very careful with the acceleration and when coming out of the water.
Let us know what the boats tops out at. Do you have any pics ?
Just run some bigger 4 blades but don't over prop it...Your drives should make it through a season.
Oh Yeah, Don't hold the sticks forward for too long of a time per speed run. |
I will post some pics of the engines and boat tonight. I was thinking of sticking with 4 blade props because I figured they wouldnt load the drive as much. But then I heard that with this much HP & TQ that it would blow out the props unless I went with 5 or 6 blade. They made 876 FT LBS of torque.

Good Luck Jason!!!
When will this beast be done? |
Contact David Knight at Fountain. He owned a 35 with 1000's back in the 90's.
are the XRs on boxes? I'd try and make that boat think it was as long as possible - its going to screw with that much power
Steve Schmidt is rigging this boat, so it should be done well. What is Steve saying about the setup?
Steve said it should definetley be fast....Not really sure how fast yet.....I hope it should be ready in a couple of weeks. I spoke with Brett @ BBlades today and he suggested higher pitch 4 Blade Bravos since my slip was previously good & that wouldnt be as hard on the drives.
Mav35 runs 110 with his 1997 single step. I think he is at 850hp. Yours will fly!
I'm thinking I should be 115 to 120 MPH.....That will be moving. :evilb:

i have a set of bmaxes would be willing to take some xrs on trade.
Johnny...What are you boating in this year? Did you get another beaker?
no but been eyeballing a 94 42 w/tripple 525s priceis good but two boats, been there, not a .happy camper.so i will most like run the cat (not chaseit):D .once you own a fountain you will always want another one.
Have they started working on your boat yet?
900 hp is too much power for that hull. It was never designed to go the speeds that 900 hp will carry it. I'm sure if you asked Reggie he would tell your friend to detune those engines or to put them in a 38 or 42.
There has been plenty of people that has put this much HP and even more in the single and twin step 35's
Jon, Steve is on it.....He said its a good possibility I could be running it next weekend. The hatch work may be what runs over.

BTW: David Knight had a 35 with twin 1000's. |

I doubt it, Reggie would tell him it's underpowered...
BTW: David Knight had a 35 with twin 1000's. When I had my 35 with 500's I considered repowering to make it a 100+ boat. I was told over and over by Fountain that anything over 100 mph was pushing the safety envelope in a 35 (yes I know of lot of people run over 100 in them.) But I can just imagine what their opinion would be of trying to run 120 mph in a twin-step 35 pushing 900 hp thru XR's - not to mention an insurance co's thoughts on the matter. Anyways I don't mean to be a kill-joy. I just thought someone needed to at least ask the question "should it be done" rather then just offering advice on the best way to go about it. Best of luck to you. |
Any more info on this?

twin 1000 in a 38
I have 2 new 1000,s by Joey Griffin going in a no step 38 ft Fountain . #4 speedmasters. Do you guys think it will bust 100MPH ?
105.

Blade count is directly related to drive heigth. Or to say your drive heigth will determine what balde count you will need. The higher the drive heigth the great the blade count. But if you are concerned about torque you can dial your drive heith into the 4B props. The fastest props on Fountains are typically the semi-cleaver props. Shoot me an email with your data and I will take a look at it if you like. We are manufacturing 4B, 5B and 6B props which have PROVEN to be very fast on Fountains. Enjoy the new boat!!

38 non step w/twin JG 1000 motors
I don't know if it will crack 100 mph or not but I do know it will cause your neighbor across the creek to spend some money on a new staggered 38 w/700's.
I am trying to get him movin but he isnt budging. I dont think it will be back for ther poker run but Joeys workin hard.Im pullin my hair out . Hows it going Danny ..Are you coming down for the run in a couple weeks ?
I am doing just fine. Yes, my son and I are coming down for the Ocean Marine run. Roger is working on getting his 35 ready to put in the water. I will be working in the Norfolk and Newport News area on Monday and Tuesday so we may have a shake down cruise after work on Tuesday. We are running his boat in OM poker run and mine in the Richmond run. Then mine again in the Rappahannock run and then his again in the new Little Creek run. Four runs is about all we can handle. I know you are excited about getting your boat back. I hope it does everything you want it to do. I don't think you could get a better guy than Joey doing the motor work.
4 runs is plenty . I hope WE can do 4 also. Cold weather the next couple days. Good luck with the shake down. I might duplicate your new paint job . I like the yellow !! Tell my neighbor he still has 2 weeks to get the new hot rod !!!!!
Shake down did not happen. It was raining when I left Norfolk this afternoon. He will have to do it on his own next week. I would be flattered for you to use my colors on your boat. If I had it to do all over again, I would use a brighter yellow. However, I still like it the way it is.
