The staggered 38 looks as if it has about as much cockpit room as my 27. I think the 42 is just more boat all around....the cream of the crop fountain from what I know. Get a 42 with big power and have some fun.

38 with triple back bolster setup gives you more room, however 42 is best boat money can buy as performance goes!!!

The 42 was staggered years ago, the 38 only recently. Both bottoms were tweaked for 2007 and are faster than before. The 42 has always been my favorite sport boat of any kind, due to it's near perfect balance. In rough water it seems to "elevate" and then lower itself evenly, instead of the typical nose up, then down porpoising. It is a wonderful ride. The 38 is now much closer to that ride with the staggered setup. It is also significantly faster than the 42 with the same power. But yes, the cockpit is tighter. Of course you probably have several points you are considering in the decision process- cabin size, option availability, manueverability in close quarters, trailering, etc, etc, and of course price. Once you put your needs in priority order the right boat will rise to the top pretty quickly. If you aren't too far away from me you can see them here side by side- I have one of each model here in my inventory. One thing is for sure-you can't go wrong with either one!
