what ever. with all due respect you and t2 , whom is allways taking potshot's at fountains and reggie himself, were yet taking another.
humility, class, o.k then.

not joe racer. just a guy who loves boats. all. just has a favorite.
get a grip.
general keeps from being personal.

Default 100-Plus

I think you will find the majority of people involved in this forum will stand behind nearly anything that monstaaa has to say including all claims to what Fountains are and what they can do, all technical data, and research that is borne from making a living at this for a long while. Trading barbs with him seems immature at best and has no place in this forum. 100-PLUS-if you are fed up, go tell it to more who will listen if you are looking for a forum as no one benefits from your ranting at a member who has real merit and thousands of accurate posts that we all count on and consider when we have serious questions. This is not some bloggers haven.

Would seem to be the case. That, or he's not real proud of the one he does have.

I am gonna start some controversy here. Let me start by saying that I own a Fountain. It's a great boat but not the greatest boat I ever been on. Would I buy another one? If the price was right. As the article stated and I feel that Reggie has an outstanding racing career and has built some great boats. BUT, in my opinion he's not that good of business man. If I am wrong some please correct me, just don't be an A$$HOLE about it. Just a few years ago he owed 20 million dollars to Mercury for unpaid power plants (5-7 years ago). They came to an agreement in which Mercury and I think Brunswick would let him slide on the debt or cut it in half in return for them (Mercury/Brunswick) establishing a board of directors. When the stock dropped to a low of $1.76, the board fired Reggie. The "little man syndrome" and is arrogance is costing him his business. He's spent so much money on R&D and trying to set records it's effected his business. Was all he did to set the kilo record was larger horsepower? What advances in hull design has he come up with? He added steps, big deal most boat builders today incorporate steps in their designs. Other than that all Fountains, pretty much look the same. He's done nothing earth shattering with his designs or tooling. I think Reggie saw this coming when the article was written, was pissed off that it was happening and just wanted to blast other manufacturers. Not class act in my opion.

dicdik,
this thread has gone on way too long, but you hit a bit of a nerve on me.
I am a FOUNTAIN owner, ( I've had 3 and will buy only FOUNTAINS), and FOUNTAIN stock holder, and a Reggie liker.
Most of what you say is true, the 20 million was a loan to Fountain Power Boats, which could be paid back to Merc. or they would own 50 % of FOUNTAIN. So they own 50 % I see it as a win / win for both companies. They both have great products.
To say the hull's are the same, is way out of line, each year the new boats, with the same power go faster. Yes he puts big power in boats to go fast, that's what he does, go fast, and set speed records.
Look at it this way, Reggie is doing exactly what he wants building race boats, racing boats etc... They still have his name on them. How many other boat builders can say they're doing that ? I don't care what my stock is worth. I own a part of history, a part of a company that a living legend built, and still owns, and guides.
I guess once you find something you like, and figure out how to make a living at it, you have it all figured out. Reggie has done that. In my book he's A okay. Maybe he's not the best business man at making money for share holders, and sacrificing quality of boats, making them cheaper in ways other boat builders do things, but who cares. There is a reason they cost what they do, they're worth it.
FOUNTAIN boats, are the safest, fastest boats on the water, and yes the records speak for themselves.
And we really need to let this thread die......
