5 blades and your drives go boom....keep the 4 blades and have them tweaked by BBlades.

I had 4 blade 31 Bravos on mine and went to 5 blade 29's, big difference, work much better. Mine is a 99 hull, still big step but not the same as your newer boats. Drives are holding together great, come on plane easy and tabs at 4-4.5 usually.

the hydro's work well too. but they seem to be a better top end prop than the maxd, just not as good in the cruise.

We had a great time in Destin and the new 42 EX was awesome. Here is the best I could do. WOT-- just shy of 5K RPM and about 80 mph. This was done with a lot of trim. I believe the drives have 1.5 gears. Drop the tabs to 4.5 or 5 and ease on the power and she came on plane without too much blowout. It was slugginsh in the mid-range. Go with the 31P Hydro's or 30 1/2 Max?

Call Tom @ hydromotive. It seems like the P5's would be better than the P5X's, as they are a transom-lifting design.

the hydro's p5 are nice, as are the max's. if you can test them before you buy em, this would be best. this way you can see which is best suited for your particular need's.

good luck

One would think...but we tried the p5's and lost speed, therfore we went back to the 31" p5x's...just my personal expierence......I agree though, call Todd or Tom @ Hydro and they will steer you in the right direction

So about 4900 RPM?? How much fuel? How many people? What was the temp? What I am getting to is that you might have a little room for more R's....if you were running light. However, if you were running heavy (full fuel, 4-5 people, and 90+ deg then you would probably be @ 5200rpm "light".
FYI...when we took delivery of our 42ex with a full tank of fuel, 90 deg, fresh water the best we got was about 78mph with the 32" factory bravo props....don't really think this answers your question...just running my trap

With 2 of us, 1/2-3/4 tank of fuel, 90+ degrees, we could run just over 80-81, with 4 of us with the same set-up it was 79-80. What is the WOT RPM's on the 525 efi? There did seem like some room for RPM'S. You had to get the boat pretty light with trim to get it there. Didn't get squirrely just loose, but I normally run the tabs at about 2.5-3 and the trim at 3-4. I had to run the trim to about 5-6 to get it to 80.
