Good news - as the value has gone to hell with the old prices and all of the dealers whoreing them out. There is a brand new loaded 07 X for sale at 139k at Duckys in PA. It has been at this price for months now and still no takers. If they think they are going to get another 26 grand more for the same boat they must be smoking crack - still though it isgood news for the used market.

I have a serious question. Does fiberglass cost that much. And really...how much are they mass producing engines for. I look at my HOME including the land it sits on.....how much does it really COST to build a boat? come on...someone enlighten me. I love my Fountain but hasn't anyone else been sitting in the cabin daydraming and wonder actual cost on a boat.

Yes the prices have gone up quite a bit. My friend owns a Fountain dealer here in upstate NY and we had a conversation about that recently. They have a new 29' (although discontinued, you can still get them) MSRP is $220,000 with a Merc 525...talk about sickening!!!

This is a very true statement because I have sat in the cabin of my boat and took a look around and wondered- How much does this **** really cost to make.

Yeah that's what he said MSRP is. It does have an expensive graphics package but still it's ridiculous.

I priced out a 29' on Fountain's website yesterday and base price with a 525 was $182,000 :angry-smiley-055:

FPB (Fountain Powerboat Industries) is trading around $1 for a reason - down from over $8 a few years ago. With the rising cost of gas and materials and the devaluing of the $, things are looking pretty bleek for the performance boating industry.

I hate to say it but unless there is a miracle breakthru that once again provides a cheap energy source, I think the glory days of Performance boating are behind us. While there will always be a market for these luxary items, I fear fewer and fewer people of moderate income will be able to afford them.

The cost of a gallon of synthetic gasoline made from agricultural products is about $1 per gallon, total, including land, growing, equipment, labor, refining plant, etc, with an annual yield of 500 to 1500 gallons per year per acre.

The only problem is volume of supply, and that is increasing very, very quickly. The amount of investment in synthetic fuels is remarkably similar to the investments in the dot com bubble -- lots and lots of billions of dollars is pouring into this.

Oil prices are up because the day of petroleum is almost over, so those holding the oil are going for their last big cash grab.

At least, that is one way to interpret the data.
