Midnightrider,

Good idea but I don't want to mess up the original, incase the next owner would want to put it back. Thanks though

The windsheilds w/o the deflector lip are very easily made from flat material. They don't need to be heated and bent. The curve is gradual enough that you just start at one end and work to the other side. I've done 2 others that have had a tighter bend with no problems. When they are cut out, they are actually shaped like a saging 8 foot 2x4, not a straight rectangle. I believe 27FOUNTAIN did his a while ago. See if he chimes in.

Will, course the easiest and cheapest route to get the same look would simple to get white decal sheet from a local detail/lettering shop and just cover the whole thing. And then peel it off when ready to sell. Just a thought.

Jana, you are correct. The fairings are indeed aluminum.
The sides are just bent at a 90 along the top for mounting the vinyl wrapped trim, with the front having an aluminum tube welded along the top for the support. Also trimed out. The fairing would actually be very easy the make also. Same concept as the windshield for the bend. A sheet metal shop could do it with ease. Only thing I'm not sure on is if they make these as 1 pc. from Alum. rolls, or if they weld at the corners in order to use standard 4x8 sheets.

US 1 Fountain

I just tried to e-mail 27 FOUNTAIN to get his input. So you think as lond as I cut a flat piece it will bend into place? HUMMMMM I wonder.

WILL

Yes. Like I said, I've done 2 others that were tighter bends than the Fountains. I'm not saying they will just lay into shape naturally. I would make a full posterboard pattern of your original sheild while it is still on the boat and is held in shape.
Now another thought. Are they held on by sheet metal screws or are they thru bolted? I don't know. 27 FOUNTAIN will have your answers.

BAJA WILL 02-27-2002 11:47 AM

I believe they are Sheet metal screws, except where the sides meet the front, that is through bolted (weird shape screw and nut) I think I wiill make a cardboard cut out tonight and get the size of the front piece. Havent Heard from 27 FOUNTAIN, Guess I will post in Gen Dis. to get him.

27 Fountain, check your email.

Jerry, my windshield was through bolted, so you have to drop the head liner, the side glass are just screwed.

Thanks Charles for responding.

Now, since I haven't done a Fountain w/shield. You recall how much of a bow difference there was from the corners to the center of the windshield when laid out flat, and did you heat yours? Just want to know if I need to eat my words.

27Fountain,
I think Back 4 More used white sign vinyl on all of his black plexi. Check out the steering wheel post for the picture of his boat. You can see the cabin door is still black. That might be an alternative for you.
Dan
