White wind screen????

I noticed a few of you have the white wind screen on your boats. Did you all have it come from Fountain like that?? Did you add it?? Or is their any after market shops that offer them??

Thanks

Mine came with. And I like to think of it as a 'Race Fairing'.

Mine is an F1 boat so it came from the factory with the wind screen.

I plan to have my winscreen painted white at the end of this coming summer. The fairing from Fountain is like 4k!!

I looked in the phonebook under "plastics" found this place about 10 miles from me that makes plexiglass display cases, some quite small for jewelry others quite large for greeting cards, said "yeah we do some stuff for boats, people break off their doors going iinto the cabin and we make them new ones, things like that." I showed him a picture of the boat and told him the windshield is just three flat pieces, he said "easy" The price is going to depend on the material (he will have to see it to be sure) and if he can get all the pieces cut out of one sheet. I'll keep you posted but I think were looking at 3-400 bucks depending on if I want to do the drilling or not. I also want to do the whiteout treatment on my glove box and cabin door and I told him they have curves, he said "yeah we do curves, as long as your piece is in good shape and will fit in our oven no problem, some people bring in pieces that are all broken, makes it kind of hard." Too bad my boat is buried away in storage, I have to make arrangements for access but Ithink I'll go up and grab the glovebox door and the cabin door, I'll keep you posted. Doug

Doug,

I have been calling around to places also, the two side pieces are no problem, However the front is curved and can't find a place to take the challange. If I cannot do it for less than a grand I'tll just leave it and wait until I buy another boat. I think a place in NJ makes the smoked acrylic for Fountain, I bet they could do it.

I'm not positive, but I think the race fairings are actually aluminum, not acrylic.

27- Do you have the "lip''?, If not, I called the factory spoke to the parts guy and he said the windshields are flat when their made and curve when they are installed on the boat. I know on mine the curve isnt very radical for a relativley long narrow piece.

Twin29,

Yea mine has the lip on the top, however I really don't care if I had one w/out the lip. However where the front piece meets the boat that is curved also, their is no way it just bends into place on mine, if has to be heated and molded.
Look at USA 1 Fountains photo above and you can see how it bends.

One idea that was mentioned and works is to have it painted. My old boat was a Baja Sport that had the windshield of the same material. I had a corvette guy color code the gelcoat, then painted the screen to match. It was like 300 on that boat, my new one will probably be about the same. They use paint that has allot of flex agent in it, and some kind of self etching primer that keeps it from falling off.
