A Little Prop Help Here Please
I mentioned this before: 42 non-step with 3x500's, what are the suggested top speed props? It now is running 23 hydros on the outsides, and a 24 in the center. The old owner said it was faster with bravos that he had tried of the same measurement. Any Ideas? Thanks Midnight

Seems to me you should be running 26 or 27 pitch at least (1.5 gears?). I have always run all the same pitch on all three drives. RPM has always been the same for all of them. What RPM are you getting? I may be thinking stepped boat but you should be running at least high 80's, right? I think the newer boats are running 28 to 30 pitch with 3/500's. I've got 30" Bravo props on my 47 now and it runs good (85+ w/500's). I'm going to try a set of 29 Hydromotives this year to see how they work.

Innthered,
You have got a killer boat. I love the red hull sides.
I have read in the tech section where the center drive had a different size prop. I believe it was a black thunder. They were messing with drive rotation and prop sizes. It was about 3 months ago.
MInightRider,
Give Tim at Riverview a call to get some starting numbers. One of his demo boats was a stepped 42 with triple 525's. It ran 93mph! Also Jeff Harris or Marty at Fountain would have numbers for you. Just don't be surprised when Fountain doesn't return their voice mails. Keep calling until you get a human. What gear ratio are you running?

I think weather permitting that Pocket Change and I are going to go out and tinker with our boats at the shop tommorow. I am going to double check the prop sizes. I'm sure the center is a size larger. And I think the star and center are right hand and the port left. I have been told by several people, and some right here, the boat should run low 80's. The past owner said with the hydros, it will only run in the high 70's, but with bravos, it ran in the 80's. I would absolutely forgo hole shots for top speed. I will update you guys on the prop sizes and gear ratio. Is there any external markings on the drives that would indicate the ratios?

candyman, Thanks for the compliment on my boat. It was at the Miami show last year but you couldn't see the sides very well. Riverview ended up with it and when I saw it I really liked the graphics. It has a checker flag done in Harlequin paint so it changes color from gold to purple. I was ready to order a 42 with these graphics but made a good deal with Tim on the 47 so that's what I got! Glad I did, I love the boat. This boat would really be fun at 100 mph. Maybe someday.
I've got 1.5 gears. I'd like to mess with different props on the center but I'm worried about putting different loads (Too much) on the center. I've read where drive life is also a product of the weight it's pushing. Dividing the 13,000+ lbs equally seems pretty important. I have flown this boat at 70 mph on Lake Superior. It's a real rush. I don't want to worry about drives blowing.
